Lisa Trevor’s story makes Spencer an irredeemable character

Spencer didn’t deserve a redemption.

My backstory is that I started Resident Evil with 4 on the Wii. Then I later played 2 on the N64 and 3 on the GameCube. On newer consoles I’ve played all the remakes, 5, 7, and 9. So I have a pretty extensive knowledge of the lore from gameplay, watching lore videos, and what not.
I’ve never gotten around to playing RE1 but I’ve recently been playing the RE1 remake for the first time. After defeating Lisa Trevor and getting her full backstory, I don’t understand how anything resembling a redemption for Spencer makes sense. He had this girl’s father and mother murdered and then commissioned her torture for 30 years before she finally killed herself. It’s possible that the writers thought that Lisa played a role in Spencer deciding to give a young girl a home? That may have been why he specifically wanted to adopt a young girl to make up for one of his many mistakes. However, seeing what happened to the Trevor family, I don’t think that Spencer should have ever been portrayed as anything other than evil. Grace vouching for Spencer’s redemption at the end of requiem really seemed like a slap in the face (faces?) to Lisa Trevor.
