Whats more important? A strong team or a lot of luck?

Just started about a week ago, and want to beat the game without any save scamming at least for my first run. I was wondering, what weight does the luck added from a shiny counter having actually decent pokemon on your team?

So far my strategy has been Grim Neigh Keldeo and my singular carry, and using my max tier shinies such as Water bubble skrelp and pickup snorlax, and now that ive gotten costs down a tier 2 zigzagoon. The luck has been great, but ive found a problem as oftentimes if Keldeo goes down/has a bad matchup, the rest of my team struggles to do ANYTHING. I always try and get a pawmot for revival blessing but when it's a bad matchup I lose anyway, I got to wave 190 and wiped to Steven's mega metagross, I forgot I had tera steel so it was partly my fault, but in using my shinies for luck I haven't been able to create an actually strong team around my Keldeo which is causing me to really struggle against some of the later game demons.

At what point is using a stronger starter like Nacli for Garganacl, or just having less shinies on the team overwrite the value of luck? (Im not saying my shinies dont do anything, pickup on munchlax is so useful dont get me wrong, but when it comes to battles they are complete nonfactors.)

Thanks for any help!

Can someone explain this interaction to me?

I was just playing random battles, and I had already set up a no retreat, and facing down a pinchurchin I wanted to set up a second one thus raising my defenses allowing me to survive a zing zap and then KO back and hopefully do some real damage to his team. However, when I did, no retreat failed causing me to get KO'd and lost the game later. I dont care too much about the loss, but I want to know why. I searched up the effects of electric terrain, I researched no retreat, I even research Zing Zap, and I cannot find why it would fail. Can someone help me figure out why?

Link to the battle just in case I missed something else (Turn 8 is where the fail in mention happened). I know most interactions pretty well I think, am I missing something stupid or is there some niche interaction I dont know?

Thanks to anyone who can help

Edit: Thanks for the help! Was actually planning on using Falinks in draft and did not know this interaction, great to learn it now. Maybe need to draft Sableye for mean look to lock it in letting it stack boosts 👀
