What was your SECOND distro (“daily driver”) and how do you feel about it now?

Instead of the usually “what distro should I start with“ I thought up an interesting remix. (almost) everyone started with Mint or Ubuntu, but when you were comfortable enough after some time to try something else, what was it? Do you regret it or not? Did you jump into something too difficult before you were ready or did you you find something you loved? Tell me all about it!

Second game, Chitsa, did I mess up my character

I'm going through the game for the first time and ... suck at combat. Yes, Chitsa is the charisma character, but I still to get through some sequences of battle.

Because she had the heavy handed trait and started with a relatively high skill in unarmed, I thought I could make her an unarmed character. So for several level-ups I've put tons of points into unarmed and it's now 80%, I got spiked knuckles... and still that only does single-digit damage. Even getting mobbed by mole rats (pig rats?)/animals I can barely kill one and then run away. Her "melee damage" is 1 and I don't think that can be changed.. but I didn't notice this until just now. I can't get the hand-to-hand perks on level up because I don't have high enough strength.

Kinda feel like I messed this up and maybe should have done small guns or something. Since even with a fairly powerful "unarmed weapon" (which is an oxymoron lol) I still can't manage killing animals... blarggg. Is there some technique for me to manage using Chitsa as unarmed? Should I just restart? is there an easy way to grind.. maybe I can just grind some levels to put points into small guns.

Are there “non grid” dungeon crawlers? Is there a term for what I’m after?

Hi everyone

so basically I’m wanting to play some more RPGs. i Don’t really care about “side quests” or “factions/guilds” like a Bethesda game… I’ve played a lot of that, but that’s not really what I’m after.

literally just the basic gameplay of clearing dungeons, looting gear, upgrading my gear and selling the rest, churning through enemies mindlessly… that’s what I like. That’s why I like Final Fantasy, I don’t even get into the stories very much, I just like menu-based combat and clearing the dungeon on the way to the mini-bosses.

I dug around and there is a subgenre called dungeon crawlers/drpgs, but they seem to be (always? Almost always?) on a grid-based floor plan, like Sorcery Proving Grounds or Mary Skelter… are there games like that whixh are more “3D”? Like a 3D FF game, still has random encounters and menu-based combat, but you’re not moving across squares like a chess piece lol.

also is there a word/subgenre for games whoch are entirely “one dungeon” with many levels, and maybe a town area above? Like Diablo 1, or Light Crusader and Shining in Darkness for Sega Genesis? or is that just under the “dungeon crawl” trope?

does al that make sense? Is there a term for this or soem well known games that fit this description?

edit: on a cimputed (Linux) so Steam, GOG, or emulation up to sixth gen consoles.
