Why do people go on Grand Designs?

I’ve been a huge fan since the very first episode and have watched them all. A friend of mine featured on an episode self building his house and highly recommended that I never consider the idea - he said the contract allowed the crew the ability to edit freely even if it meant changing the entire context of a conversation.
And, he also said when they had problems causing delays they got a fair bit of pressure to get more funding to finishing it instead of delaying. Much of their build is a bit rough when outside of the filmed areas.

I understand they don’t get paid and to my mind I can’t imagine the pressure of having cameras around when things go wrong ….

So why do people apply to go on Grand Designs?

App to manage private charging away from home

I've been thinking for a while how do people manage the cost of charging on a private or business supply that is not your own.

Examples:

  1. Going on a road trip, charging at a friend or family's home.
  2. Charging at work or charging at a business that you are not an employee of.
  3. Charging on a supply that is shared with flatmates.

etc, etc.

How do you manage it? Is there an app or method to essentially pay for your own EV charging when using a supply you don't own? Once or twice here and there probably wouldn't make a difference, but there must be users who need to do this regularly and it's managed in a clumsy way.

Thoughts?

Why doesn’t money put into KiwiSaver reduce taxable Income?

This seems to be the best way the NZ government could incentivise kiwis to prepare for their own future - it seems to be the norm in other countries, so why not here?

Self employed people who opt into KiwiSaver get zero matched contributions vs employed people, so for them at least (but why not everyone) it would be a good start to be able to benefit from a tax free allowance on income if it’s invested - we do it for a scheme to allow people to buy bikes for “work commutes” by allowing deductions to reduce taxable income, so why not KiwiSaver or other managed investments?

DP3 Firmware update withdrawn?

A couple of weeks ago whenever I opened the app my Delta Pro 3 prompted me to do a firmware update: specifically that firmware 7.65.92.32 is available.
As I am away from my device I did not want to trigger a reboot so kept cancelling it. Annoyingly the prompt has been popping up every time I log in, with no way to turn it off.

Today, I log and the prompt is gone, which lead to a panic that the firmware updated anyway. I went into settings > update, and was surprised to see firmware is still showing my original 7.65.92.17 and is the latest available. I.e. Update .32 is gone.

It seems to me they have withdrawn a firmware update, which reinforces my suspicion that these updates are being rolled out prematurely - did anyone else notice?

How do I stop firmware update reminders?

After reading some of the horror stories about failures after firmware updates, I don’t want to update. As seen in the screenshot, even if I select “do not remind me” the only two options are to cancel (the pop up) or update.

I get reminded regularly and it’s getting annoying, so how do I get the “do not remind me” setting to stick? Cancel sure doesn’t do it.

I’m trying various other Options out there and looking at what is required to gracefully export the paid version of ChatGPT.

On two occasions now I’ve tried to prepare leaving by exporting my data. The first I got through the 2FA stage but the confirm page wouldn’t load.
More recently everything looks like the process is behaving and I am to expect an email link to download my archive. But it never comes even waiting several days.

My usage isn’t huge but I’d like a record of it.

I’m now getting a bit suspicious that OpenAI’s export function is not well supported or doesn’t actually work. This reinforces my decision to move away before my archive is even bigger.

Any thoughts?
