Sicily bridge approved in Italy

Italy’s Superior Council of Public Works has approved the final design of the Strait of Messina Bridge, allowing the project to move into its last design phase, known in Italy as the executive design stage.
It will be the world’s longest single-span suspension bridge, with a 3-kilometer main span, towers nearly 400 meters tall, and a 60-meter-wide aerodynamic deck made up of separate box sections, carrying both road and rail traffic. It will also feature four main cables, each more than 1.2 meters in diameter. The entire structure will weigh almost 500,000 tonnes.
