Oilpainting from 1922 with difficult signature
Hey,
So i have another special case ^^
I originally bought this still life as an unsigned painting.
I bought it primarily because of that Chinese doll. Lovis Corinth, a famous German Impressionist, featured a doll like that in several of his still-life paintings.
However, Corinth’s doll was a different model in terms of color.
I don’t know of any other paintings featuring a doll like this, which makes the piece quite intriguing to me.
Those nodding-head pagodas were very expensive back then.
Upon closer inspection, however, the supposedly unsigned painting turned out to be signed after all. The signature is very finely incised.
Unfortunately, I cannot decipher it.
Would a more renowned artist even sign a work in such an inconspicuous, hidden manner?
Corinth, for instance, sometimes painted his signatures right in the middle of the picture.
The painting is also executed on an extremely coarse canvas; I would almost say it was jute.
