I'm going with Meidroth
I'm going out on a limb and taking Acuna.
Against my better judgement but in the spirit of the 'there's a different hero on this team every night', I'm going to go with Braden.
I'm going with Antonacci
I'm going with Gonzo. He get off to a bit of a tepid start, but he's been on an upswing lately and is starting to drive in runs.
Mune, C-Mont, Vargas, D-Mart, Burke. LOTS of talent on this team.
So before June, I posted that the Sox have one of their toughest months, schedule-wise. I just said since most of the month we wouldn't have Teel or Mune, if we could go just go 13-13 and hang around first it would be good. Sox are 12-11 and a game up in 1st in June going into today. They postponed one game. We'll see how it plays out.
The good news is, July looks promising. I think it's an extremely favorable schedule for the Sox. Yes, they play 4 in Cleveland. But they also have home series vs BOS, A's and HOU. They also get the Blue Jays and Rangers. Not to mention, unless there's a setback, I predict Mune will make his debut either vs the A's at home or vs the Blue Jays in Toronto.
My prediction: Sox go 15-10 in July and end the month up 2-3 games in first going into the home stretch of the season.
I also think the Sox won't completely sit on their hands at the trade deadline. I think they make a couple small moves, likely to pick up a couple of arms. We can't just let Cleveland make 2-3 big moves with their excellent pitching and do nothing in response.
I'm going with Benni
80 If you think it's stupid to calculate this in late June with only a 1.5 game lead, downvote away. I'm going to continue this. The Sox contribution to this project is to merely stay in first.
I realize every team plays far worse on the road than at home, typically. And even being .500 on the road is considered a small win for a team. But there's probably no team in the majors where the difference between the way this team executes at home vs the road is more pronounced than our White Sox. Even Cleveland does pretty well on the road (even better than at home last I checked).
So the question is...has any manager or team figured out a strategy for improving road success? Do you bring the family on the road with you? Do you decorate the opposing clubhouse to look like your own? Bring in the same catering?
Or is it just, 'it is what it is'? Is it simply 'just play your best and overcome it'?
We do have a very young team. I think a benefit of having more veterans is they're far more used to playing road games, far easier to tune out boo's or tune out cheers for an opposing team.
There's probably no answer to it. But this team isn't just bad on the road. We're horrific. Sometimes small triggers / changes can turn things around.
Would be interested in hearing everyone's thoughts.
I'm going with Romo.
I'm going with C-Mont
I'm going with Teel
It's 83. I don't care if it's stupid. I haven't been able to do it in years so I'm going to waste my own time and it's the only math I want to do. White Sox
I'm going out on a limb and going with Acuna. God help me.
I'm going with Peters
I was always lukewarm on this idea. I don't think the Yankees and Braves mess with this. Today was a perfect example. While yesterday wasn't a typical 'opener' situation, it plays out the same - a reliever starts the game. Yesterday it was Nuke, and he did very well but due to 3 strong innings, he was unavailable today. We really could've used him instead of Eisert. I think we gotta scrap this idea. Take a good look at our pitching numbers. It's difficult to argue that it's working.
