Sox win the crosstown season series on run differential
Cubs: 3 wins 32 runs
Sox: 3 wins 33 runs
Kings of Chicago baseball. The numbers speak for themselves
I met John Schriffen last night during the rain delay
I know not everyone likes him, I don’t hate his calls but don’t think they’re amazing either. However, he was super nice and personable. Great guy!
First time at a crosstown game and it was one of the best nights of my life.
The White Sox sent their rookies on a coffee run
These goofy Illinois politicians man..
“Ah yes it’ll be so funny if I also give him a cubs jersey!”
You guys know the Cubs are good, right?
I'm seeing a lot of doomers in this sub who think we're cooked and the season is over. You need to chill the hell out. Both games have been absolute cinema that didn't go our way. We went into this series knowing it would be an uphill battle with the state of our bullpen, and yet, we're in staying these games against a really strong team who is in better shape then the last time we played them AND has a player who is on an MVP campaign. Chill out. We'll get this last one.
First visit to Chicago and first white Sox game
Hello. I am coming in on Sunday and staying at the Hilton Palmer hotel. I am planning on taking the subway to the game and my seat is in box 128 row six for the Sunday game.
Would love advice and tips as this will be my first trip to the city and game. From Texas.
Thanks in advance
Upset for what?
The cubs are good and we hung with them this whole series, we getting one today. I'm 33 and I was in middle school in 05, I remember "don't stop believing" being our song. After the words don't stop believing, the words are "hold on to that feeling" I have held on to that feeling.
Are we gonna win it all this year? No but, I mean that feeling has come back up with these guys, I have that feeling again. Let's get one today, and even if we don't, let's get the braves tomorrow, it's a good time to be a Sox fan, I was at the game yesterday I stayed and listened to "go cubs go" after the L
I hate the cubs but they are a good team I know this series is demoralizing but it shouldn't be. And as always, GO SOX!
1st place White Sox.
No doom and gloom will be tolerated. The White Sox wake up today August 19th , 125 games into the season 4 games ahead of every team in the AL Central, standing alone at first place. Looking like a first round bye is in their future. Today is a new day. Yesterday is in the past. Do the work and let’s watch the good guys get back on track.
B Montgomery's RF Canon
I didn't think it could get any better than Bo Jackson's throw but that play today was amazing! Faster catch and release. More zip on it too?
Unbelievable that the Sox aren't playing like the best team in the AL every night. We need to fire everyone for failing to capitalize on this season. (Yes, I said id be happy if we managed 70 wins this year)
Venable’s Bullpen Deployment (aka Old Man Yells At Cloud)
Let me preface what I’m about to say with this: I recognize that Will is going to be a strong, maybe even the leading, Manager Of The Year candidate. And for good reason. Also, I understand that he can only work with what Gets gives him. That said…
The reason the pitching staff, particularly the bullpen, is so taxed is because the starting pitching doesn’t consistently go deep enough into games. We all know this, but it’s an issue throughout the league in this era and not just a White Sox issue. But the other reason is because they haven’t solved the closer problem.
Let’s be honest though… they have. It’s Grant Taylor. But instead of deploying him like a traditional closer, they’re relegating him to “get us out of this jam in the 6th, 7th, or 8th” duties. And it feels like every week I’m seeing him enter the game earlier than the previous week. And don’t get me wrong, I fully understand the perks of using your best reliever to get what you perceive as huge outs in back half of the game.
The trade off is that you are now counting on lesser relievers to cover the final 1+ innings of the game. And when you do that, your lesser relievers are going to surrender tying and go ahead runs. Which leads to…EXTRA INNINGS! And thankfully the Sox have performed well come extra innings. But in my opinion, this isn’t a long term winning formula. Your ballclub needs to decide if it’s going to win in the 6th, 7th, and 8th and your middle relief is by design meant to cover middle innings. If you can’t count on Brazoban, Hicks, Hudson, or Richards to cover key outs in the middle of the game when there is still time to add insurance why would you hand them the game in the 8th and 9th?
Again, I understand the argument for using Taylor for big outs that aren’t in the 9th. I just don’t think this is a formula that consistently good teams follow. We have played Also, I prefer to give relievers clean innings. If you have the option stop making them clean up each other’s messes and just give them the inning for better or worse. You can give up a run or two in the 6th or 7th and come back. But giving up dumb runs in the 8th and 9th is backbreaking. And when it leads to extra innings it just brutalizes your entire pitching staff.
