wish i could sleepmaxx through this renewed heatwave
what’s up with everyone? how are you doing? what are you doing, reading, writing, painting, thinking?
the more i think about it the more issues i have with obsession (the movie) and how people think it’s some feminist master piece when the most time is being spent with a “look at this crazy bitch” as horror type vibe.
imagine if we saw long stretches of the movie only from her (real) perspective for example. instead we get only glimpses of her POV, and a million memes made with her face on it by men talking about their “crazy ex” girlfriends. plus entire swathes of the internet trafficking in “mutual abuse” narratives.
granted this writer is in his early twenties but i’m beginning to think this writers main idea was just to have a woman acting crazy and “scary” and the very deep and profound readings of the movie being more coincidental. i do think he chose a man on purpose, but i don’t think he thought through how the actual visual language of the movie would just traffick in those crazy woman stereotypes for the main entertainment. i mean, realistically the most brutal violence is reserved for women (both by nikki against herself and against the other woman), as is one of the feminist critiques of horror as a genre
anyone else got conflicting thoughts about that movie? i know someone here will have a better way to articulate my issues with it
