Bringing Crows to the Yard
Hi fellow corvid lovers. I started backyard birding in Feb, been feeding since then and have a pretty established yard. I've been trying to attract crows since March. I put out cracked corn, a hard boiled egg in the morning, and sometimes some kibble. Merlin, and myself, hear Crows and Fish Crows daily. I've seen Fish Crows fly over on their way to do something corvid-adjacent I'm sure.
I even have a bowl of shinies (the grackles are intrigued by them and move them around every few days at least?).
Am I doing something wrong? I live in a small city but am literally like 200 feet from city limits, I'd consider it rural like and there's a nature area with a lake about 3 mins walk from me, fields and such to my east. Turkeys are all over the place about a mile north of me, and I see deer in the fall and winter time.
I even built them a plank in my garden and put the cracked corn and one of the bowls of shinies (Oh I have water in a bowl for them and also a dedicated bird "pool" I've made with a solar powered fountain) on it, thinking maybe my deck railing was too close for comfort.
Any help, tips, tricks, suggestions, encouragement is welcome. Thanks!
