KERNEL PANIC! After computer died mid update install, will not boot. Now what?

I have tried going to UEFI settings and tried select an UEFI file as trusted for executing with no results.
i am truly a noon here.
i have a USB with mint on it but not getting anything other than fail to boot when in use.
how do i get my distro back?
