How do you guys even pick your reads lol???

Idk what’s wrong with me. I’m a big reader but have always struggled with finding my genres of books. Probably the ADHD doesn’t help lol. I get overwhelmed by too many decisions, buy books as dopamine hits, go through genre hyper fixations, and collect TBR books for dopamine. I have like 50-100 unread books in my house and 554 unread TBR books stored on my Goodreads.

I love books tho! I’m always trying books even if I dnf. I am also even an English Literature major. I actually loved everything that I read so far in my major a lot. It feels like I know at least that stuff is my type of books.

I’m trying to maintain my reading up over the summer tho! I’m just having trouble picking what to read. I have a lot of books at home but idk if they match what I want to read. I also tried to make a Summer TBR list but I ended up putting like 24 on it which is an absurd amount for my reading pace. Some are some I already own, some are not.

I want to read books that give that vibe of summer. The heat, the nostalgia, the regrets. I don’t want something summer cute. Literary

Question about Anna Chotlos

Has anyone had Anna Chotlos recently? She's a traveling and new professor, so I can't find a good RMP for her. I have not heard anything about her ever. I registered for her Literature and Social Justice class. I emailed her and it kinda sounded intense. She said to expect to read 40-60 pages per class session. I'm an English literature major, but that sounds like a lot for a 2000 level elective. Then again, I have asked English profs in the past what reading would be like in their courses and they usually overestimated.

My main interest in literature is literature from diverse perspectives like Women, Black Americans, Post colonial, different economic levels, queer etc, so I thought that this course might be a natural extension of that. She said that she will focus on the theme of education and two novels she is considering for sure right now are "James" and "Demon Copperhead."

Any thoughts on this? I am not someone who wants to cruise through my major obviously, but I have ADHD so I must consider balance and workload.

Help me Give Recommendations!

Hi all!

My Stepdad has recently got into reading (so exciting for me as a future librarian!) and is needing good fantasy recs. I got him into reading through John Gwynne’s the “Shadow of the Gods” and he read all of Gwynne’s books thereafter. He also enjoyed the Echoes Saga, LOTR, the Wheel of Time, the Witcher, the Sovereign of Seven Isles, The Burning, The Bound and Broken, and some others that he didn’t like. I think he tried Sanderson’s the Way of Kings and didn’t like it and didn’t like the Blade Itself

He counts on me for recommendations since I love helping people connect with novels (hence my future career), but I am way out of my depth here at this point. 😅 I’m someone who is into literary fiction, classics, and historical fiction. Not epic fantasy like him. It’s getting increasingly harder to find more novels for him. He’s flying through them since he listens to them as audiobooks when traveling for his job. He’s read 50 books in just the last year and can read a 20 hour fantasy audiobook in a week!

Have any of you guys read and liked the same books and had other series you have enjoyed??
