Pre-Release Reconstruction of The Evil Dead aka Book of the Dead. Best Version to watch for Purists!

Pre-Release Reconstruction of The Evil Dead aka Book of the Dead. Best Version to watch for Purists!

All credits go to Dr. Sapirstein, who made this possible.

A digital reconstruction of the original, untampered, pre-release version of "The Evil Dead", then titled "Book Of The Dead", free from any post-1981 video and audio alterations. Using a beautiful 1.37:1 open matte 35mm print transfer as its main source (executed by ? thank you, whoever you are), and the soundtrack of the 1st pressing of the Japanese laserdisc (the only true source for the original untampered sound mix in lossless quality), this reconstruction of Book Of The Dead is presented here in an HD remastered video edition to bring you its truest, untampered version in the best viewing conditions.

This version has the Book of the Dead title card, uses an alternate sunrise shot at the end, and reconstructs the original Book of the Dead end credits. It has none of Raimi's digital alterations and goof fixes. It also has the true original mono mix (lossless). Color timing is also much more authentic to how it looked originally. This looks and sounds absolutely beautiful. PM me for download link (8.1GB)

Rewatched Evil Dead Rise after 3 years. What a fun, twisted & wild ride!

Thought it was only okay after seeing it in theaters 3 years ago. Didn't really feel like OG Evil Dead to me (neither did the remake, which I came to love over the years). Now I've rewatched Rise and I had a total blast with it. This film is so twisted, playful, full of dark humor and it's very violent. Ellie has become one of my favorite deadites now. She steals every scene she's in. Loved the moody, slow burn approach and then suddenly all hell breaks loose and the pace shifts into relentless gear; grabbing you by the throat and never letting up until the credits roll. Excited for Burn now.

Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell & Rob Tapert at work: creating a timeless masterpiece and the ultimate Evil Dead movie imo

Do you prefer TED in 1.33:1 or 1.85:1?

Personally, I prefer to watch TED in 1.33:1. It's clearly the intended framing and blocking. 1.85:1 feels way too tight. Almost claustrophobic at times. Also missing important details from time to time. What about you guys?

The score itself is beautiful. I wonder if it actually works when paired with the movie. Has anyone seen this version of the film?

- The Evil Dead: During the last 3rd of the film Ash is left completely on his own, desperately trying to survive the nightmare.

- Evil Dead II: Since it's a direct continuation of the original movie, Ash carries the entire 1st third of the film alone until another group arrives at the cabin - deliviring a fantastic one man show.

- Army of Darkness: The 2nd third of the movie Ash is once again left on his own, searching for the book of the dead - again delivering one of the most iconic one man shows of all time.

I love effortlessly Bruce Campbell carries these huge parts of the films. He has so much charisma and a fantastic on screen presence.

His music in all 3 films is simply brilliant and really elevates the insanity put on screen. I wish they'd bring him back for future Evil Dead projects.
