I (22F) am an uni student currently living at my family's house for the summer. I invited my friend (20M) from university to stay at our place for a few days so we could hang out, discover my city, and have fun. My family was completely fine with it at first. However, the moment my friend arrived, my older brother (35M) decided he didn't like him. He started making everyone in the house miserable just to show his disapproval, which put me under immense stress.
Then he dropped the bomb and ordered me to send my friend away, effectively kicking him out of the house. I broke down crying and begged him to change his mind, but he refused to listen. For the next three days, I was subjected to constant psychological warfare. I was like a ghost in my own home. My brother kept calling me up to eight times a day, every single hour, demanding to know if I had kicked my friend out yet. The anxiety was so debilitating that I could not eat or drink a single thing for five days.
During this nightmare, I desperately needed to vent, so I texted a friend to let my emotions out. I was angry at my brother. It was just my emotions.
On the third night, my brother suddenly shifted gears. He told me he was going to reconsider, that he loved me, and that we were okay. I felt a massive wave of relief, but during that entire conversation, I was literally shaking because my brother has violent tendencies.
The next morning, I woke up to him completely ignoring me again. I was dumbfounded. I later found out that he had secretly gone through my phone and read my private vent messages. Because of what I said while under extreme psychological distress, he started playing the victim, crying, and claiming that I "betrayed" him. He then told me he was cutting me off and that I was dead to him.
I turned to another friend for support, but she completely sides with him. She told me that since it is "his house", he has the right to kick anyone out. She also said I am acting like a 14-year-old child, so he is justified in monitoring me, calling me every hour, and reading my private texts because I "rely on my family" as a student.
I am torn apart, physically exhausted from not eating, and feeling incredibly isolated. Am I the asshole for inviting my friend?
Edit: One of his reasons to dislike my friend was why he took 42 minutes(yes he took a timer) to take a shower. My friend has respiratory problems so he had to take a hot shower.
