I need a main conflict for my first story

(very early concept)

I have a concept I love but im not sure which thread to follow

basic bulletpoints. Advice is appreciated!

1600s style tech society unknowingly made on top of the ruins of a 21st centuryish society

humanity worships group of heroes for stopping the Apocalypse.

POV character is a thief and breaks into a major church and finds a corpse found over the body.

He runs and finds his way into a bunker in the bunker. He finds a strange ancient device and takes it

leaving the bunker. He is ambushed and captured by the dead man's crew. pov character is now forced to see the job through since the crew is now down a man.

They need someone who is knowledge of ancient materials to crack what the device is.Team goes to meet with ex priest antiquity expert, the expert identifies the item as VCR and has recording on it

the recording is of a member of those heroes. The hero states that he is recording the message. As a last ditch effort to get the news out since the apocalypse was another world, bleeding into this one, the heroes were a group of scientists And engineers that created a device that converts souls into a seal to block the other world away. But it's a temporary fix.And the seal immediately started wearing away after study. They found the seal would break after a few hundred years. The rest of the heroes decide since they would all be long dead by the time Its an issue they decided to reframe what they did The one recording plans ongoing public and coming clean shortly after recording, the hero was found dead.

Do I follow the assassination of the old hero, the thief crew member, or what?

I need quotes!

My wife is making me custom editions and wanted me to pick out quotes to have on the back of each. So what are yalls favorite quotes from each part and book?

They're going to be 2 from each title except wind and truth since that came out as 1 massive brick of a book.

My wife made me my own leatherbound!

I was sad that I can't afford the leatherbounds and my wife who doesn't even read his work fired up the cricut and made me a genuine leatherbound! I have no words! My wife wanted me to clarify that it is infact a removable dustjacket not a true binding cause I didn't wanna damage my uk editions.
