Any Resi 9 meetups Saturday?

I am going to PAX West Saturday-only and will be cosplaying as Grace! I only saw a few fan meetups on the schedule, but nothing for Resi. Anyone aware if there’s even an informal meetup planned?

Thanks!

The move has officially started, but more importantly…!

Ikea sleeper sofa built! I’m having the help of friends and family moving into my own apartment 10 blocks away, and my friend and I were able to build the sleeper sofa without much trouble. Just my bedroom, office things, TV, microwave, food, and misc things remaining that will wait until tomorrow.

My apartment search has come to an end!

Update to https://www.reddit.com/r/BallardSeattle/s/SycXU7crYB

So after spending half of July looking at apartments, I finally bit the bullet and filled out an application for a unit I had looked at just last Saturday. And only an hour and a half after submitting…I was approved! I had no idea it would happen that fast, and was mostly applying since I was noticing less new listings, and more previous places disappearing. This will be my first apartment I will be moving in by myself, living by myself. Yeah I’ll get help from friends and family of course, but wow I didn’t expect this to have such a quick turnaround!

I think I may end up eating August’s rent at my current place just so I have more time to move everything over. That seems to be the consensus among my family, too. I saved a lot of money by spending years splitting rent with family or a roommate, after all. It will be a tough change at first, having to pay for everything myself. But, worst case scenario, I only have to deal with it for a year. The location is nice, still in my neighborhood, and the unit made me feel cozy the moment I stepped into it. I hope it all works out and helps me grow as a person!

Ballard Seafood Fest!

Went with friends today, and got to try gator and frog legs for the first time. Also shared the crab mac n cheese and loved the matcha coconut drink and Hokkaido matcha ice cream!

Looking for advice on moving within Ballard

Born and raised in Ballard, finally needing to find an apartment of my own. My roommate of 8 years moved to the U-District, so now I’m searching. I have toured about 7 places, with 2 more scheduled. I live in a quiet area on 24th Ave, but it’s tough to pick an apartment that is just as conveniently located without putting myself in areas I know can be really busy and hectic.

My main criteria has been:
1.) Stay north of Market, west of 15th
2.) Remain in walking distance of a bus line, accessibility to grocery stores
3.) Avoid Ballard Commons park and industrial Ballard

I wouldn’t mind living on 15th ave depending on where along that stretch it is. I did spend some years where my family lived in Crown Hill not far from 15th and Holman Rd, and didn’t experience any problems.

There have been plenty of listings that meet my criteria while also being in my price range, but it’s all so overwhelming for me right now. Like I said, it will be my first time living alone. Ballard is my home, I know all its pros and cons, and intend on remaining for as much of my life as possible. But if I absolutely had to move out of Ballard, I’d look at Fremont, Wallingford, Greenwood, or Phinney.

Apartment hunting, first time living solo

My roommate of 8 years finally made the jump to living alone, not because of any issues, but just because it was a life change she was wanting for some time. And with us having very little luck finding a replacement roommate, and with my family all advising me to leave the apartment due to mold…seems the universe is telling me to get my own place.

Problem is, this will be my first time living alone. My first time apartment hunting alone. I have been checking websites and have already toured a few places, with more scheduled tours coming up. But it’s of course very intimidating. I am adamant about staying in my neighborhood, especially since I don’t drive. There are affordable places but wouldn’t improve my mold situation, or would be tiny studios. Although I am sure I will eventually find a place, I am naturally worried I will be forced to settle for a teeny tiny place or an expensive apartment that would eat up most of my income. And until I can get a place, I have to continue to pay rent at my current place, which before I was splitting with a roommate.

So, yeah, I’m kinda rambling, but I am sure a lot of people feel similar to me! I’ve always appreciated living with someone I get along with, being able to split costs and chores and still getting “me time” when desired. But now with looking for my own apartment, it’s going to be a hard adjustment. Paying for all groceries, dealing with being entirely alone except when I go out.

So, uuuh…wish me luck! And hello, all!!
