Ideas For New Disability Representation: Forest the Wildlife Pup

(Just a dog I got off of google, what the design would probably be) ⚠️ SPOILERS ⚠️

Obviously with Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie out in theaters right now, the movie is doing fantastic overall with critics, reviews and voting, and they had a massive money amount in the box office, and hopefully there is a high chance there will be a fourth movie to continue this on!

One of the reasons why the movie is doing so well is because of one of the characters featured from the original series, Rex.

Since Rex has been a huge hit overall in Paw Patrol, why not we introduce some more?

This is just an idea, and I am not an expert on move making so please don’t come after me. I am just a minor hoping to see representation.

The dog above is Forest the Chihuahua. I know, it’s an image but please roll me with here. Maybe Forest isn’t with the Paw Patrol, she lives somewhere else, but Forest is a small brown chihuahua with white paws and a patch of white on her chest who lives in deep, dense forest taking the time to watch over the animals and rare creatures that live here. Her design alone would be very marketable, and kids and people in general love seeing the smallest underdogs complete the biggest missions.

Her job would be maybe Wildlife Conversation and Habitat Specialist. Her small size would mean that she could squeeze into tight wedges or spaces to rescues trapped animals under debris or other stuff, and with her calm and patient presence, she would be able to gently guide animals to veterinarians through medical procedures and check-ups, and she would maintain the health of the forest around her. Picking up litter, planting new flowers and trees, stopping illegal hunting and people messing with the animals would just be some of those things she would be at. In her pup pack maybe she could have a first-aid animal medic kit and a thermal tracking camera to spot animals she can’t see easily hidden under bushes or in the crevices of cracks. Maybe her pup tag could be a forest of trees, or just one tree, or even a flower.

Ok, her disability (please don’t flame me this is just an idea) Childhood Onset Fluency Disorder, or a stutter.

If you don’t know a stutter is a neurological disorder which revolves in involuntary disruptions in the flow and fluency of speech and how long it takes sounds to get out of someone’s mouth. The stutterer knows what they want to say, but physically it’s going to take them a bit longer than someone without a stutter to get their words out. It does not mean she is nervous or dumb, in fact, she has some of the sharpest ears and the most patience out of any of the pups.

Stuttering is not caused by nerves or anxiety or thinking too much, those these factors can worsen it, and I think it would be amazing to see stuttering in media. Not only is it represented extremely low, so there is basically barely any representation of proper stuttering, but the VERY majority of characters of stutterers are male, and used to be comedic relief, weak, geeky or a villain. There is quite literally no female representation of stuttering which is why I made Forest a female pup. This would add on to the start absence of stuttering, especially female stuttering, which already isn’t talked about enough.

Just like Rex, despite her disability, Forest is an empathic and intelligent chihuahua who is sensitive and caring to the Forest around her. She is selfless by making sure the animals and the trees are all well and taken care of and completely devoid of trash, and she would have a quiet yet bright confidence in her abilities to lead hurt and scared animals to safety. She wouldn’t rush into danger. Instead she would be very observant in her surroundings and she would be able to accurately read animal body language and miss things the other pups would probably miss because they would be more likely to rush in a situation instead of taking the time to look around them first.

She would be fiercely brave at times even with her stutter, not hesitating oje bit to protect a bear cub against maybe a human trying to hurt it, or even guide a frantic moose out of danger, proving that your size doesn’t matter in bravery.

But most of all, by having a character, especially a girl, who stutters freely and openly, she would teach little kids that anyone’s voice should be heard even if they have different rhythms in speech and how they may pronounce their words. It would also teach kids empathy for different people and to always be patient while listening to someone, because they might miss something important. Like maybe Forest discovers a massive breakthrough in something and she goes to tell the other pups despite her stutter. That would be such a strong message to kids, and really people in general.

It would be so empowering when Ryder chooses Forest for a mission and she stutters out, chest high:

“I-I-I’m one with the f-f-forest!”

Basic catchphrase, but still. And it wouldn’t be just repetitions; prolongations and hard blocks and word swapping would be so cool to see. The producers could work with the National Stuttering Association and speech language pathologists to consult with to make sure Forest is an accurate and respectful representation of stuttering, and also how to accurately interpret and write it out. Maybe they could pre-record certain lines instead of standing to an immediate script, snd they could have a girl who actually stutters voice act. Instead of a script handed to them, the voice actor and the director can have an unscripted natural conversation with them and they could record it to put in the movie. All the natural stuttering would be captured organically. Then they could take all the parts and audio editing them to make it a natural part of the dialogue. Maybe even for fun they could custom animate her blocks with maybe her eyes closing or her head gives a slight, determined nod of physically pushing through it, showing realistic blocking moments and stuttering in general.

Maybe if she were to have a backstory, it most likely wouldn’t be as dramatic as Rex’s, but definitely more on the emotional side of things. Maybe as a little pup she was teased viciously by the other pups around her for her stutter, and she couldn’t defend herself verbally, or the other pups would get impaitent and tell her to spit it out or just walk away all together because they didn’t have the paitent to just listen. Despite having so much to share, she would start to believe that her voice didnt matter and she would become withdrawn and self-conscious about her stutter, so she would always go into the forest when she had she chance too and sit in it and just relax in it, interacting with all the living things in it because this was the one place she was free from all the torment. Bullying is a realistic experience for stutterers, so it would be nice to show this with her backstory. The woods are quiet, they are beautiful, and nature never judges. She would find peace in the forest. Then over time her isolation would turn into her biggest strength, which would cause her deep love for the forest.

Maybe a big moment for her is that the Paw Patrol, or someone, gets stuck in something like a mudslide, and because Forest knows the forest better than anyone else, she would be the one to lead them out of it and rescue the trapped hikers with her voice. She would help the Paw Patrol by using her stuttering voice to locate them where they were covered under the mud, and no one would tell her to slow down, take a deep breath, they would just listen with deep patience and immense respect for Forest as everyone was located and moved out to safety.

Like before, her pup tag would be maybe of multiple trees or just a single tree to represent the forest and her deep love and overwhelming desire to protect it from danger. Maybe for some hobbies, she loves collecting dead insect wings and plants and putting them in a scrapbook she loves, dipping into the nearby river for a swim, and sitting somewhere to just be at peace for a while, and maybe she lives in the forest, full of choice, so she can watch over the forest more easily instead of running back and forth. Maybe because she is used to the quiet, she would be really afraid of loud machinery like bulldozers or even lawn mowers, and maybe she loves dried fruit, specifically maybe apples or dried cranberries, though she mainly uses them to gain the trust of animals. She may also like drawing in the mud or splashing in puddles on rainy days, and maybe her design could actually be a large log cabin where she lives at, showing her resourceful side and her survival skills.

Again, this is JUST AN IDEA, though I didn’t mean to type this much and go this deep, but if they were to add more disability representation, I think Forest would be a really neat add to the pack, though I know with the amount of forest-based pups already in the show, I’m not sure if this would happen. But this is a really cool idea otherwise, and I really enjoyed creating her!

Snufflepaw’s Voice, some scenes of Chapter 8, re-edited.

This is what we see how the clan really feels about Snufflepaw and her stutter, and how everything is starting to escalate. If anyone knows how to post links in the comments, I would be thankful! It’s on Wattpad.

Some of my angst of Snufflepaw! And pages too from Snufflepaw’s Voice!

I have presented my warrior cats oc here before!

For another introduction, Snufflepaw is an apprentice in Rainclan who struggles with a stutter. It affects her both externally and internally. You can read it on Wattpad! And yes she is a girl because there is basically no female stuttering representation.

In Rainclan she’s met with a lot of hardships in her life, including a strained relationship with her mother, Whispersong, because of her stutter, her father being unsure if his daughter can succeed while trying to be a leader of Rainclan, and Rainclan not believing she’ll ever succeed as a warrior. They cut off her sentences, treat her with Impatience instead of understanding, and have her non-stuttering sister, Mallowpaw, talk for her, to talk for the both of them because the clan thinks she’s doing them a favor.

Despite all of it, Snufflepaw thrives to become the warrior almost no cat believed she would alongside her stutter, even after a fatal accident that resulted in the death in her clanmate, which led to her becoming the scapegoat of the situation. She wants to bond closer to her mom, let her dad know she can do it, and wants to become a listened-to independent speaker like her mentor, Batpurr, who she looks up too greatly. Follow along on her journey as she battles along her voice and her complicated home!

What were some of the ways people in school or in general bullied or teased you for your stutter that wasn’t straight up mocking? More subtle ways, or in general make you feel less?

For me, had me say certain words like long words or words that were really hard to pronounce, and also have me count to 30 or 100 to hear me stutter. I dork get fooled anymore, but this used to get me a lot in school

When I’m having a bad stuttering moment and there are snickers and silent laughs and someone says they’re going to hell, or whoever laughs are hell, while laughing themselves. Like dam I do hope you go to hell for laughing at a disabled person struggling??? Like I hope they acquire a stutter as severe as mine and hope they find themselves crying when they physically can’t tell their family they love them. Do they not know how heartbreaking that is?

I’m not sure about this one, but asking me ridiculously stupid questions. Like no not the curious ones like “Do you stutter when you’re nervous?” (I stutter regardless, it’s called a lifelong stutter for a reason(, I’m talking about just stupid questions. One time I got asked that if I were to bash my head into a wall would it cure it….or repetitive questions to the same people over and over again. Like “why do you talk like that?” I JUST EXPLAINED IT TO YOU GOONS FOR THE MILLIONTH TIMES?

What are y’all stories?

In honor of my fabric reaching over 1.7K readers, Do you have specific characters or character dynamics you like? Etc!

I’ve always wanted to do some sort of Q/A for Snufflepaw, maybe even create a long YouTube video of one! It doesn’t have to be just what I listed in the title, it can be any questions! Unless they’re just straight up weird. And not just questions either, you can give your own opinions and comments about stuff in this story too!

I don’t know how I just realized I had over 1K reads, but here we are, and I feel so thankful for the people who supported the growth of Snufflepaw and this story! I remember it from the very beginning, when it was called Snufflepaw’s Place instead, but Snufflepaw’s Voice sounded more fitting, and this is when I started the entire story over again.

So thank you so much! And the story is still ongoing too, so it is not finished yet! I’ve just been dealing with some heavy writer’s block, but I think I can get back on the road now!

What are some stuff the Warrior Cats fandom gets wrong but it actually makes it better or more enjoyable?

  1. When people design Shadowsight as a black tabby with darker stripes, and they make him have one red eye or red eyes in general.

  2. Hollyleaf climbing the tree to explode Squirrelflight’s and Leafpool’s secret when in reality she remained on the general ground.

  3. In maps, people usually make Mapleshade kill Appledusk on purpose to teach Reedshine a lesson but Appledusk actually launched himself in front of Reedshine to protect her from Mapleshade. She didn’t mean to kill Appledusk.

  4. This is more of a funny one, but people who make Scourge’s collar rainbow just because the fandom argues over the collar, but I searched it up and it says it’s more of a dirty pale yellow. I think it’s purple.

What are yours?

What are some tropes, specifically Warrior cat ones, you dislike in this series?

This is probably a very specific one and I don’t know what it’s called, but I don’t like the strict, stoic grumpy “scary mentor where an apprentice has to go through berating and unnecessary scolding and the mentor is portrayed as in the right, and when the apprentice gets the SLIGHTEST approval, like a plain good job or a curt nod, it’s treated like Starclan came to bless them. Like for example, that scene in Elder’s Quest, Moonpaw is treating Cherryfall’s wound and Jayfeather’s like “good job” and internally Moonpaw is going beserk. That’s so corny and sad…

Another one I dislike is actually recently with the medicine cat drama of an apprentice not wanting to be a medicine cat and eventually they actually find out Starclan chose them and stuff and they get used to it.

Everyone talks about how bad Bramblestar was in Squirrelflight’s Hope, but why does talk about how malicious Tigerheartstar was moving?

Ok maybe malicious isn’t the right word as he isn’t a villain, but he was outright horrible and filled with such a lack of compassion for the Sisters.

He literally got a pregnant wife killed mid labor and caused the death of Leafpool and also the near-death of Squirrelflight. He literally caused a cave-in to try and draw them out. Does no one see how awful that is?! I don’t care if he didn’t know about if Moon was in labor, that’s actually so cruel.

I haven’t read the book in a while so I have to reread it to recollect everything. But I know some of the stuff he did was horrendous, and it shocks me that nobody talks about it at all. It annoys me that no cat in general could just simple wait the extra moon to give birth and leave, or even come up with some sort of comprise. I get the other leaders were in it, but you have to agree that Tigerheartstar was a full on villain in this book. I do not care how “morally grey” or “complex” he is, he was an outright villain.

As a stutterer I absolutely hate this scene.

Already horrible enough that the misconception that people who stutter only stutter because of anxiety or lack of confidence is still a really strong thing, but to actually write it out in a popular genre where people will watch and play and reflect and gather information on is so rancid.

Saying it isn’t a stutter and it’s a confidence issue brings so much harm to this already heavily stigmatized community, and to believe in yourself implies that this is his fault he stutters and that he wouldn’t be stuttering if he worked hard enough. It is not that simple as that, and I wish people understood that. I’m surprised this scene isn’t talk about enough.

Celebrities/Famous people who could have partial or even full warrior names?

TIGER WOODS IN GOLF!!! This is such an ironic one.

Some WNBA players who could have partial names are Kelsey Plum, Natasha Clouds, Chelsea Grey, I THINK Skyler Diggens but I’m not fully sure, maybe Cameron Brink, maybe Olivia Miles if they new what miles were, maybe Paige Bueckers, Angel Reese MAYBE, Lexie Brown, this is what I can think of.

NBA players: Jalen Green, Russel Westbrook specifically with his last name, Jaylen Brown, Draymond Green, MAYBE LaMelo Ball but BARELY maybe, Alzono Mourning (maybe as Morning), De’Aaron Fox, I can’t really think of any at the moment. Wait I think Larry Bird.

Celebrities: Taylor Swift, Cardi Bee, I would say Doja Cat but being named cat as a warrior name sounds like an insult, Emma Stoneteller, Halley Berry, Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, maybe Brittney Spears.

Even a lot of sports teams like Chicago Sky, Chicago Bulls removing the S, Milwaukee Bucks removing the S, Atlanta Hawks without the S, Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets without the S, Atlanta Dream, Connecticut Sun, Minnesota Lynx, Seattle Storm and Portland Fire!

Sorry, I’m a big sports fans! But any famous people in any category can fit here in the full names and partial names! I can only think of Tiger Woods.

Even better, maybe we could even create art of these celebrities as warrior cats! I would love to see art of famous people!

Happy disability pride month, stutterers!

We can use this month to spread awareness and proper understanding of stuttering and what it really is! Even this community is really flawed when it comes to supporting stutterers!

We can talk about what stuttering REALLY is, how misunderstood it is even by other stutterers, etc!

Happy Disability Pride Month!

This month is the celebrate people with disabilities and what they had to overcome, and this could be in warrior cats too!

We can talk about disabled characters, our own opinions of how good or bad disability quality is in the Warrior series, disabilities you hope will be shown, and your disabled OC’s! Maybe we could do some sort of challenge, though I’m not sure.

It doesn’t have to just these though! Type whatever you want! My favorite disabled characters are Briarlight and Nightstar!

Some of re-edited version of Snufflepaw’s Voice: Chapter 1!

Lately ever since school ended, I’ve been going through the process of re-editing, changing and lengthening scenes in Snufflepaw’s Voice, and I’m also adding stuff I completely forgot to add or stuff I know would make sense to the story.

I already did this to the Prologue, Chapter 1, Chapter, Chapter 3, and Chapter 4. Chapter 5 is in the process right now of getting re-edited, and I can already see a bit of a quality boost!

I’m trying to fix a lot of the spelling errors and not trying to rush everything and fix a bit of my pacing. I’m also fixing some of the characters and how they treat Snufflepaw because of her stutter.

For anyone new, Snufflepaw’s Voice involves my OC named Snufflepaw who is born in Rainclan with a severe stutter, inherited by her grandfather Troutwater. She faces a lot or ridicule, impatience, and warriors think less of her compared to her sister Mallowpaw, and other things are now happening in the story. The story is on Wattpad.

Also Chapter 20 is posted! Some things happen in there too!

Any tips on what to do better and also a rating here would be great!

I’m suprised no one talks about the evil rat colony in Firestar’s Quest, or in general.

When we think of our evil animals here in Warriors, we typically of the dogs in TPB, Sharptooth and the badgers attacking Thunderclan in TNP, and the hawks that took Snowkit and Swoop. But I never really see rats discussed, especially because of how rats are considered so dangerous by the clans that they don’t even bother to hunt them, even during leaf-bare, unless extremely desperate, and that isn’t really shown a lot.

In Firestar’s Quest, the main villain of this series isn’t really other cats or even a badger or a fox, it’s actually the rats in that lived in that barn. Being prey-sized, you would think they would be very easy to take up, but they actually end up killing Rainfur and take one of Firestar’s lives before he manages to kill their leader. The leader was also very intelligent, being able to hold basic conversations with the cats and possessing tactical skills, and the rats listen to him well. I actually really enjoyed the rat group and the Rat King, because we get reminded that the wildlife is dangerous and other animals are dangerous, but especially with rats. These are the same rats that literally caused the falling of the original Skyclan.

To start off, despite them still being a small size, they are described to be noticeably large, probably about the size of a small bird, so they have the advantage of being able to squeeze through tight spaces while also being big enough to cause some damage if they wanted too. They are also described to be extremely aggressive and very territorial of their own territory, and they will attack. Because they’re not so big, I think the reason warriors struggle to kill many of them is because of the fact that rats don’t really have a lot of openings, and the fact that there are hundreds of them at one time, so they can swarm. While a warrior kills one rat, there’s already thirty climbing on their hind legs and probably five to ten more biting their legs and clawing their skin. And because rats both in this series and in real life are smart, they can also plan and think tactically. They literally took one of Bluestar’s life too, and if Barley hadn’t came to rescue them, I think it would’ve ended up way worse.

Another reason they’re deemed so dangerous is because they’re so diseased ridden that there’s just no point in risking their lives even if rats could provide such a good food source. One bite or claw mark from a rat can cause a cat to fall to a devastating sickened state, and sometimes herbs can’t help the cats. Even their meat, when killed, isn’t deemed healthy to eat despite them being so big. This is shown in the first prophecy, I think, when someone in Shadowclan managed to kill a rat and he put it in the fresh-kill pile because really only Shadowclan actively hunts rats. That one single rat plagued Shadowclan camp for how long and caused the deaths of multiple warriors and it killed Nightstar. It was so bad that Littlecloud abd Whitethroat had to run away to try and get help. That disease literally killed eight cats: Dawncloud, Cinderfur, Shadowclan Ashfur, Nightstar, and all three of Dawncloud’s kits. Even if they aren’t dangerous physically, they definitely are medically. And then later on Victoria said that two apprentices named Brownpaw, a kit named Lavenderkit, and Cinderfur’s three kits, Rubblekit, Quietkit, and Turtlekit, also died, so this just increases to thirteen.

There is a fat plump food source, but if even the most starving warriors will avoid it at all costs even when desperate most of the time, this says a lot on their level of how it’s not worth it at all, and rats are taboo unless they are literally in that edge of starving to death. I’m pretty sure Hailstar lost his last life fighting rats. The rats also caused some serious injury to Tawnypelt when traveling to the sun-drown place.

I think, like what I said before, on what makes the rats so dangerous in this series is how they are horribly disease-ridden, they can squeeze through small spaces,!and their ability to swarm.

Even one single rat can cause an infection to a warrior, and their sharp, teeth means they can cause some gnarly damage. One single rat can easily be killed, but it becomes extremely difficult and even impossible to fight a swarm of literally dozens and probably hundreds off alone, and even with multiple cats, and that is shown multiple times that even a decent-sized patrol struggles a lot, and some cats is always even the really injured or they die all together. In Onestar’s Confession I think, Stagleap ends up dying because his singular rat bite got infected and there was nothing that can be done. Even if one singular rat isn’t physically a danger to a cat, there is always a huge risk of disease and sickness regardless of the amount, and guess what? This was a time when Windclan was desperate for prey, and they must’ve been extremely desperate because the other clans except Shadowclan aren’t really shown to hunt rats at all.

A similar thing happened in Yellowfang’s Secret where a gang of rats attacked Lizardstripe’s patrol, and Brokentail convinced Raggedstar to kill some of the rats in front of them to teach them a lesson and to get a potential food source as they were starving, but then Foxheart ends up getting killed in the process.

It’s harder to fight with the rats because at least with a fox or a badger, there is typically one target you need to focus on, only a couple more vulnerable spots, and they can only move to such an amount of spaces. But rats can hide anywhere they please, whenever they want, wherever they want. Rats can swim, rats can climb, rats can smell stuff from far away, rats can run decently fast, the rats are strong, the rats are intelligent, they have highly sensitive whiskers, rats live together in huge colonies, and rats have extremely strong smell and hearing. Literally their only con is that they are extremely near-sighted, but their other perks compensate for that. Look at all the advantages rats have.

I probably dug too deep into this, but I really want rats to come back as a genuine antagonist in Warriors.
