Am I crazy, or is Walmart’s app displaying misleading prices?
I honestly want to know if this is happening to anyone else.
I was shopping in the Walmart app and found a Tasty 40 oz tumbler.
- The search results advertised it as “Options from $3.00.”
- Another screen advertised it as “Now $3.00.”
- When I opened the product, several pattern options were individually labeled $3.00.
So naturally, I selected one of the $3.00 options.
The moment I selected it, the price for that exact option changed to $6.96.
Thinking maybe it was just one pattern, I tried another.
Same thing.
I repeated it with multiple patterns, and every time the option was presented as $3.00 until I selected it, at which point it became $6.96.
The last screenshot is my actual shopping cart (the one with “Remove” and “Save for later”). I circled the item because that’s the one I’m referring to. As you can see, it remained $6.96 in my cart. There was no $3.00 discount applied anywhere.
My issue isn’t that prices can change over time. My issue is that the app is presenting selectable options at one price and then changing the price after you’ve made your selection.
If the real price is $6.96, why is the app showing $3.00 on the options in the first place?
At the very least, shouldn’t the app stop and say something like:
“The option you selected is no longer available at $3.00. The current price is $6.96. Would you like to continue?”
Instead, it just quietly changes the price and assumes the customer notices.
Am I missing something here, or does this seem misleading to anyone else?
