Help with this stupid paint job in this house
Background- previous owner of my house did some really questionable construction work. This paint is giving me a run for my money. Long story short, I was fixing some awful drywall work, and the paint started peeling. It’s kind of stretchy and rubbery; some areas peeled off in big sheets and other areas don’t. Some scrapes fairly easy, some doesn’t, and it’s tearing up the paper on the 70’s drywall. They drenched every room, so it’s not just walls but also every. Single. Ceiling.
Before we knew about the bad paint, we textured the ceiling in the kitchen. Fast forward a year later, it’s starting to crack and chunk off. Takes the previous paint layer with it.
My question is, how in the heck do I overcome this??! Everything I read says that a bonding primer is going to bond the new surface coating to the previous surface coating. So do I need to scrape and sand every inch of this improperly adhered paint off every wall and every ceiling? Is that my ONLY option?
Other than torching the whole place, of course…
