40 Days Solo in the Wild: Film Frames vs BTS [FX30 + Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8]
Been seeing some amazing shots on here, so I figured I’d share a few frames from the hardest shoot of my life.
I just spent 40 days totally alone out in the wild shooting a live-action interactive film. No crew, just me and the FX30.
Shooting 10-bit 4:2:2 internal in S-Log3 honestly saved the footage. The dynamic range gave me so much room in post to recover shadows, which was crucial because the natural lighting in the deep woods and river sections was brutal. Also, since I didn't have anyone to pull focus or check framing, the "Sony Monitor & Control" app was my lifeline. Being able to tweak exposure and hit record from my phone while standing in a freezing river—couldn't have done it otherwise.
Still kinda crazy to me that indie filmmakers can get this level of cinema gear at this price.
(If anyone’s wondering what the project is, it’s an interactive survival thriller called Wordless Forest, dropping on Steam this August.)
