For the past seven years, I've thought Neal Shusterman was a woman
Let me explain.
I read Arc of the Scythe all the way back in high school in 2019. My English teacher saw me reading the first book and recommended to me the Unwind book. I swear she misgendered Neal Shusterman for me, cause for the next seven years I've always assumed he was a woman. Neal Shuster-MAN. Neal's not even unisex.
If it wasn't that, it might have been a subconscious association with Arc of the Scythe and the Hunger Games. Since that series had a female lead and author, I must have assumed Neal Shusterman was also a woman. I've read all three books and Unwind and UnWholly, and I must have never paid attention to the review blurbs. I don't think he had an author portrait on the dust jacket either.
Anyway, after not reading a single book for nearly two years, I got a Kobo last week to start reading again. I was talking to a friend about all the books I've read, and brought up Arc of the Scythe. I definitely misgendered him in that conversation. Perusing through my local library, I saw that they had an eBook copy of Gleanings, which I've never read. I go to look up the word count, and boom: Neil deGrasse Tyson's long lost twin is staring right at me.
Thought it was kind of a funny story so I'm posting it here.
