Price Tag and Final Price Difference

So I just went to American Eagle to get some jeans and the tag said $49.95 but then when the cashier rang them up they were $69.95, how does that make sense?

Edit: I’m in America, not Canada

Update: Went back and they refunded me the overpayment!

I’m just curious as to if EDUC teachers actually check that their students completed observation hours for each class. They have so many students so I can’t imagine that they would call/email each individual school to verify. Maybe some of them would but all the classes i’ve been in the teachers have been very half-assed about everything they’ve done.
