Pill tracking idea from Threads

I love this, although I fear you’d have to multiply it by the number of meds. Then you’d have a whole countertop of cat treat dispensers. Still probably worth it if your parent saw it as funny/clever rather than dehumanizing.

Weekly thread for founders?

I’m tired of sifting through amazing ideas for an app that will help me help my parents, and I’d like to request a weekly thread where they can be sequestered.

I’m here because I have aging parents, not because I vibecoded something that might be sold to people with aging parents. I’m also a veteran of software product development and UX research, so the “would you use this?” questions are especially grating — and I really resent the idea that we should be providing free time and energy to people developing products.

I want to hear how you helped your mom find her keys (remote-style key finder plus air tags plus an extensible purse tether? Iykyk) and this would help me find the other people who are solving these problems in their lives with limited funds and patience. And if I want to provide free insight into my sandwich generation woes, I can go to that thread.

super narrow shoes for super narrow feets

I’m actually asking for my mom, who was cursed with feet that ideally wear a AAAA shoe. There are few shoe makers that even manufacture a AAA, let alone a AAAA. Other than Ferragamo, New Balance and SAS, are there any super super narrow shoe companies, made-to-measure or other approaches that might work for her? I’d love to know what you super narrow feet people do.

Adding: the standard A or even AA are too wide, so the normal options for a narrow foot are still too wide.

Teenage girl in 1963 US who runs away

This is a book about a white girl in the early 1960s living in the US. She has a sister who is more popular. She lives in the suburbs with her parents. She has an aunt who wears an eye patch. At the climax, she runs away from home with a car and drives to NYC when she hears that president Kennedy was assassinated. She’s in city traffic, listening to the radio and a Black kid on a bike next to her says through the open window, “what are we going to do, Miss?” (This always seemed like a weird unrealistic detail, but what do I know?)

I probably read it around 1990 and I think the female author wrote a bunch of YA books but not Paula Danziger or Cynthia Voight and I don’t think it was Katherine Patterson.
