Tales From the Archives - the original Ghost Rider (Rex Fury) - Ghost Rider v1 #3 Canadian Edition

Been working hard at the archives, and nothing too interesting jumped out (other than the marvel run of Conan).

We have a very large collection of golden age Westerns... so I was hoping to run across some Ghost Rider stuff... but nothing until today.

It's a bit rough... but a 1951 Ghost Rider is really cool

An Introduction To Canadian Comic Books (1986)

Fun little relic in the archives. It was put together by an Ottawa area comic club and I really laud the effort, especially for the time. However... they got a lot wrong. However, it serves as a great benchmark for how far we've come in the study of Canadian comics and recognizing them as their own distinct thing.

Online comic store/buying help

Alright everyone... I need some help.

If you haven't been able to tell - I love comics. So much so that I am getting dragged deeper into the world (with /sooooo much/ kicking and screaming... really, honestly).

I love collecting comics. I love getting one of the silly side things that I'm collecting or a MASSIVE key. Both are a joy.

What isn't a joy? Going through unorganized comic boxes.
I do this for my job. I HATE IT when I go into a store or something.

So I am willing to forego the chance of uncovering super deals in a bargain bin for just getting what I want.

However, I have exhausted my local and local online stores. This is where I need help:

What stores are organized? Or more importantly, what are some good online stores? They don't have to be big - I'm looking for weird stuff, none of it "big".

Local is Heroes and L.A. Mood. I hit the Silver Snail when I'm in Toronto.
I've bought from CaptCan, Knowhere, and a few minor ones.

So - let me know your suggestions.

OH, I scour Facebook and fb groups all the time, I even post what I'm looking for... no one reads it.

Fun from the Archives: Captain George's Comic World Presents: Silver Starr

Found this in the archives today. Obviously the name stood out (Captain George is rather famous in Canadian comic circles). It's long... but a lot of fun. A love letter to old sci fi - but the vehicle reminds me of the Earth Torpedo from Better Comics.

Recent Additions to my Personal Collection

The problem with working with the academic collection is that it leaves me wanting cool stuff for myself.

Recently, managed to pick these up for a really good deal. Knocked a few majors off my want list.

Canadian Hero Comics - 1979?

Found this in the collection

It appears to be from 1979 - printed in Mississauga.

But the $2 price tag has me questioning it.

Also... ummm it's... "interesting"

Tales From the Archives: Batman Again!

Back again with some fun stuff from the Academic Comic Collection!

Between... not a lot interesting and finishing my Master's paper... not a lot to post, figured today would be another "meh" day... but the last box I went to work on was full of silver age Batman stuff... in great shape ^^

Once again stuff I want for my personal collection...

But this is pretty much an extension ;)

Also - here's a hint to where the collection is:

I found an almost complete collection of Shang--Chi (missing about 7 issues - I'm sure they're just in another box) - I was going to make a social media post and tag the actor who played him in the MCU who is a graduate of my university and visits rather often ^^

Anyway, hope everyone enjoys some cool things in the archives.

My TCAF Haul was bigger than I thought...

Some of these were comics that I picked up while I was in TO... but I count it.

Fela and Louis Riel were graciously signed

Top Loader Brand Help!

Hey all - question about top loader brands.
I display some keys and fav issues (and signed stuff... though that's getting more out of hand than I expected) - but the backboards just... aren't cutting it.
Top loaders aren't expensive, BUT the one I bought to try out was a tight fit for stuff, which I don't like (supposedly a Silver Age size, but was having a problem with Captain Canuck #1 a normal Bronze Age sized book).

So - recommendations?

I'd be looking for Silver Age Size since 99% of my stuff falls into that (I'm actually not sure I personally own any Golden Age stuff) - and Bronze/Modern will mostly fit there too.

Additionally - suggestions for thick books like Annuals/Giant Sized books? I guess most of them are square bound so... yeah.

Any/all help is appreciated.

While I'm here
Has anyone found decent Golden Age or Magazine sized top loaders?
The archives has a LOT of Golden I want to protect, as well as some Magazine format - so if you've found any. My concern is actually opening thickness. A lot of early Golden are 64 pages and the paper is thick.

Tales from the Archives: Batman Fun

So - one of the joys in organizing my university's comic collection is coming across stuff I will probably never own... at least not until I'm a professor and making actual money.

Today was a slog through star log magazines and 90's indy stuff... until a box of silver age Batman stuff. Actively said "oh $#!+" when I spotted Batgirl :)

First named Mr. Freeze and the Batman vs the Beatles issue. Nice way to end the week :)

First Appearance of Vampirella!! More fun from the archives!!

Digging through the archives... and found a complete run of the original Vampy magazine! Great to be able to check it out and read her first story.

Some fun Canadian comix in the archives.

Honestly, comix are not my thing... so I know very little about these. But always fun to come across Canadian stuff.

I'm currently in the Vancouver City Archives working on the Ted Ross collection. But I thought I'd share something you don't get to see often: original scripts.

I don't have the exact issue for this story... though I know I have it. But I thought I'd share.
