Bought a new Virtus HL AT at the price of a top-end Kylaq MT
[OC]
I was considering a Kylaq Classic Plus AT Lava Blue, instead negotiated a killer price on the Virtus.
My options/considerations:
I was quoted:
- ~ 19.3 lakhs for Virtus GT Plus 1.5 DSG
- ~16 lakhs for Virtus 1.5 Manual (Diwali last year, post-negotiation, right before it got discontinued)
- ~13.5 lakhs for Kylaq Prestige Manual (without negotiation)
- ~10.5 lakhs for Kylaq Classic Plus AT.
- ~11.5 lakhs for top-end i20 N-line (without negotiation)
- 13.82 lakhs for this Virtus HL AT (post-negotiation)
My approach:
- Personally loved the Octavia Mk4 in the used market but couldn’t convince family for a used car after a previous experience.
- I enjoy the 1.0 in Kylaq but don’t like the looks much.
- I liked the i20 for its performance characteristics but don’t trust Hyundai’s build and don’t like its road presence.
- I like the 1.0 TSI but wasn’t convinced to spend anything more than 14-15 lakhs on it.
- Test drove both the 1.0 and the 1.5 back to back and didn’t feel a practically perceivable difference in city limits (where I’ll drive this car)
- Pulled off this great negotiated price on the Virtus after visiting the VW showroom twice, loved the deal. Couldn’t get it any lower as there’s 40% tax on the Virtus, but I was satisfied.
- 5.5 lakh jump didn’t seem worth it for the 1.5 DSG.
So here it is!! What do you think about it?
About me:
-> I am a hardcore tech and car nerd, and keep reading about them in depth avidly. The Indian spec 1.5 TSI doesn’t get VGT, or many ‘fancy’ things I care about. It gets better electronic thermal management system, polymer coating on crankcase and plasma coated cylinders, all of which didn’t fascinate me much because I own an XUV700 Diesel AT AX7 as well.
-> I have previously owned an XUV500 Diesel, Vento 1.6 TDI and a Stage 2 Baleno, genuinely loved all of them for their unique characteristics and charm.
-> Got 100% TPU PPF done on this from detailing devils for just a little under 65k.
-> I love exclusivity and I am planning to eventually make this car my own by doing personalised mods to it. Let’s see how that goes!
