Makeup sponges?

Howdy folks!

I know that I don’t “need” to use makeup sponges when I’m painting minis, but I’ve heard that they can be used for…something? What are makeup sponges good for? Could I use them to make a kind of old-school camouflage scheme?

Thanks in advance!

REPOST - Ramshackle Church from Renedra

Howdy folks!

Sorry for the repost, but because I’m incapable of letting myself be “finished” with a project, I’ve added a few extra bits to this terrain piece. I’ve also taken the advice of u/Cradle09 and tried drybrushing it again…even though I still don’t think my drybrush is any good.

Once again, Zoidberg (made from StarGrave bits) for scale.

Ramshackle Church by Renedra

I originally wanted their non-ramshackle church, but it was sold out everywhere but in the UK, and I’m not paying tariffs just for that. Either way, I’ve wanted something like this for a while now, and in happy to finally have it painted up. Yes, there is a bell in the spire, but no, it doesn’t ring. The raven at the top is from one of the FrostGrave wizards kits.

The handy part about painting ruins and terrain like that is how my crappy paint skills are actually a plus

C&C welcome

And for scale, why not Zoidberg?

BattleTech Clanner Trinary

Howdy folks

Painted these a few weeks ago, but was afraid to post them because of how poorly they turned out. They’re “supposed” to look like black tigers with white stripes, but as you can see, that was easier said than done. Needless to say, I now know I need to use a smaller brush/lighter strokes to get the stripe look.

I’m still a pretty new painter, so C&C is welcome.

From the Journal of Fíona Cortês de La Fontaine: Corporal, 884th New Antioch Light Infantry

4 May 1914 Anno Domini

We found a small shrine today, out on patrol. It wasn’t much of one, and obviously hadn’t been built by any actual clergyman. It was just two hunks of old masonry and a small coil of barbed wire that someone had hastily tried to make into a place of respite in No Man’s Land. Someone had painted a rude cross in yellow paint on one old remnant of a wall. It looked like they didnt even know what the proper angle of the footrest was supposed to be, and repainted it. A fallen pillar had been set an icon to Ágios Martínos, some candles, and the helm and gas-mask of a fallen soldier. At best, two people could genuflect at once in this tiny, open-air shrine. Maybe three. The helmet was of no use, given the bullet hole in it, and Lord knows how long the gas-mask has endured the elements.

Indeed, the Lord Himself alone knows this soldier’s name, homeland, hopes, dreams, and fears. This tiny shrine, crude as it is, is a bittersweet reminder not just of the Lord and His blessed saints, but also of those among us who will never make it home again.

Howdy folks!

My first ever homemade terrain piece: a battlefield shrine. I know I made a lot of mistakes (mostly by mixing painted and unpainted components into one project), but I’m still lowkey proud of this. I also learned that using hobby drills does NOT count as “ruining” my minis, and the proper way to paint/draw an Orthodox cross.
Since I don’t have any (painted) Trench Crusade minis, I included Zoidberg, for scale.

My First Ever Terrain Piece!

Howdy folks!

Like the title says, this is the first piece of terrain Ive ever made (though the bits of masonry are from a Renedra kit I did a few months ago). It’s supposed to be an impromptu battlefield shrine for Trench Crusade. I know I made a lot of mistakes, like mixing painted and unpainted components, but C&C are still welcome. Ironically, I don’t actually have any (painted) TC minis, so Zoidberg is here for scale.

Does this count as free-handing?

Howdy folks!

I’ve been using these dark age shields from Wargames Atlantic to practice free-handing. Obviously, I have a ways to go.

I primed them white and then used a micron pen to stencil some lines to color inside of. I tried taping off sections of the shield, but the paint bled underneath it too much, and I’m honestly more worried about ruining wet-transfer decals than just winging it with freehand.

Trench Monsters from Wargames Atlantic

Howdy folks, these are from WGA’s Weird Wars conversion kit. I think I posted the giant worms already, but the paint I originally used for the slime oozing from the worms just kinda faded away for some reason. And I wanted to show them along with the giant rats in the kit too. No, I don’t know why I gave each rat a different colored mohawk/mohican, any more than I know why they were sculpted with them in the first place.

And before anyone says anything about my basing, I LIKE how they all look like they’re just chilling in the middle of a Denny’s parking lot.

Stripping Paint?

Howdy folks. Is isopropyl alcohol effective for removing the paint from CGL's models? I ask because something about the plastic makes me think it's different from that used by 40k minis.

Trench Worms from Wargames Atlantic

From the Weird Wars Conversions kit by WGA, garnished with some bones from their Dead Animal Parts kit, and a couple skulls from GW. My poor artistic skill actually helped make these things suitably gross, and I’m slowly learning how to use washes and effects paints.

Still not sure about the whole “Dude, thin your paints” thing though…

A month away from the hobby and I feel like it shows 😓 I know that’s not long for some people, but I’d only been doing this for about eight months before Real Life (tm) got in the way.

From the Oathmark Skeleton Infantry kit by North Star. One spooky scary skeleton down, 29 more to go.
