AITA for telling my fiancé I won't marry him until he stops letting his mom plan our entire wedding?
I (27F) have been engaged to "Mike" (29M) for 8 months. We're planning a wedding for next summer. His mom "Diane" (58F) has been divorced for 10 years and is very involved in Mike's life—like, very involved.
At first, I was happy she wanted to help. But it's escalated to the point where she picked out my wedding dress style without asking me, added 40 people to the guest list I've never met, changed our venue choice behind my back because she "found a better deal," and told the caterer she wants a plated dinner when we agreed on buffet.
Every time I try to push back, Mike says "just let her have this, it makes her happy" or "she's just excited, don't be so controlling."
Last week, I found out she booked a DJ we never discussed and paid the deposit. I lost it. I told Mike I'm not walking down the aisle until he starts acting like a partner and setting boundaries with his mother.
He said I'm being dramatic and "it's just a wedding" and I should focus on "what really matters"—our marriage. But to me, this is what matters: how he handles conflict with his mom.
Now his mom is crying to the whole family that I'm a "bridezilla" and trying to tear her son away from her. Mike's sisters are texting me saying I'm being unfair to their mom.
AITA?
