OKEECHOBEE, Fla. (CBS12) — After barricading himself in his Okeechobee home following a deadly shooting, a man is behind bars with no bond.

The Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) said the shooting occurred on Wednesday near the Quail Acres subdivision. OCSO's road patrol division, criminal investigations division, the Crisis Negotiation Team, and the Special Response Team responded.

At the scene, authorities found the victim with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to HCA Raulerson Hospital, but was pronounced dead, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The alleged shooter — 64-year-old Richard Harvey Daugherty of Okeechobee — barricaded himself in his home following the shooting. After several hours of negotiations, the sheriff's office said Daugherty surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without incident.

OCSO said the case was classified as a homicide, and Daugherty is currently held without bond at the Okeechobee County Jail, pending his first court appearance.

Officials have stated that the incident appears to be isolated and poses no threat to the community. The victim's family has been notified.
