Anyone here has gotten a hysterectomybor planning to do so? I am 30 year old mother of 4 and I had all c-sections. I am terrified of being put to sleep. I would love some support.

Advice

Looking for experiences with hysterectomy after multiple C-sections + complex fibroids/possible adenomyosis

I’m hoping to hear from women who’ve gone through hysterectomy in a more complex situation, especially if you’ve had multiple prior C-sections.

I’ve been dealing with about 4 months of continuous heavy uterine bleeding that hasn’t stopped despite multiple treatments. I’ve tried TXA and hormonal therapy. TXA only reduces bleeding but doesn’t stop it, and hormonal treatment only worked temporarily at higher doses but isn’t sustainable long-term.

Imaging has shown multiple fibroids in and around my uterus, including subserosal fibroids and possibly involvement near the cervix. My doctors have also strongly suspected adenomyosis. I’ve been told that ablation would likely not help in my case because it doesn’t treat fibroids outside the uterine lining or deeper uterine disease.

I also have had 4 prior C-sections, and I was told this can make hysterectomy more complex due to adhesions. One doctor mentioned my uterus may be attached to my abdominal wall, which adds to my anxiety.

Because of the ongoing bleeding, I’ve developed anemia and have needed iron infusions and even blood transfusions at times. I’ve also had multiple ER visits due to heavy bleeding episodes.

At this point, I feel like I’ve exhausted conservative treatment options and hysterectomy is being discussed as the next step. I’m leaning toward it because nothing else has controlled the bleeding, but I’m very scared about surgery risk due to prior C-sections and possible complications.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who:
- had multiple C-sections before hysterectomy
- had fibroids and/or adenomyosis
- had adhesions or complex surgical history
- was very scared about surgery but went through with it

How did your surgery go? What was recovery like? And looking back, do you feel like it was the right decision?

I’m especially struggling with fear about serious complications, so honest experiences would really help me understand what to expect.
