best cooling mattress for hot sleepers and does active cooling actually make a difference?
i've accepted that i'm just a hot sleeper. always have been. but it's gotten worse lately and i'm starting to think the mattress is a bigger factor than i gave it credit for. currently on a memory foam that felt fine in the store and turned into a heat trap within a month of sleeping on it.
been reading about the difference between passive and active cooling in mattresses. passive is basically just materials that feel cool to the touch or wick moisture. active cooling actually moves air or regulates temperature through the night. the gap in how they perform over a full eight hours seems significant based on what i've been reading but i don't have firsthand experience with either.
the one that keeps catching my attention has per side temperature control which would solve the disagreement with my partner about how warm the room needs to be. adjustable firmness on top of that is something i hadn't considered as a cooling factor but apparently affects airflow and heat retention more than i realized.
haven't committed to anything yet and curious whether people here felt it was worth the price difference over a standard cooling mattress.
