Branded search is treated like the “easy” part of acquisition until you actually look at the SERP.

Then it gets messy fast.

PPC sees branded CPCs rising and calls it competitor bidding.

SEO sees branded CTR dropping and calls it snippets, content, or ranking changes.

But a lot of the time, both teams are reacting to the same SERP shift:

– affiliates bidding on the brand
– competitor ads sitting above organic
– review/comparison sites stealing attention
– AI/snippet modules changing click behavior
– layout changes pushing owned results lower

Same battlefield, different dashboards.

That’s the part I think teams miss. Branded search isn’t really PPC or SEO. It’s a shared reputation and distribution layer.

Curious how others handle this:

Do you review branded SERPs as one environment, or still split the analysis between paid and organic?

And have you ever chased what looked like a PPC problem, only to find out the real issue was somewhere else?
