Lesbian friend keeps giving opinions on my sexuality

I have a close friend who identified as bisexual for years but has recently realized she’s a lesbian. I’m very happy for her and I recognize that this was super difficult and significant in her life. That’s who she is and she’s finally acknowledging it.

I am bisexual and have been out to her for years now. My sexuality has been an interesting road and I’m still exploring how I express it, but I’ve had the same label for years and I’m happy with it. It’s who I am.

My friend has been not so subtly communicating that she thinks I should only date women. She thinks I should just choose to only be with women and never do anything about the part of me that is attracted to men. In my opinion, this is just the other side to my parents wanting me to only date men. I’m bisexual. These are both attractions I experience that I’m not going to deny.

It’s now gotten to the point where she is telling me she thinks I’m actually a lesbian which is so incredibly hurtful I don’t know how to move forward here. I know this has been a hard realization for her and coming out as lesbian was so freeing for her, but this stings so bad. I don’t know how to be comfortable and genuine around her after this. I’m not her and my experience with sexuality is different.

I’m wondering if maybe this will cool down after a bit? Maybe I just need to take some space while she goes through her awakening? I don’t want to just throw away a decades long friendship, but the way we are lately is not sustainable.

Any advice?

Student Emailed My Personal Email

This is the second student I have had do this, and I have no idea where they are getting the email address from. My personal email is not listed on any sites or directories. It is exceptionally easy to locate my professional email address or contact me through canvas.

Both times this happened it has been before the semester started and the student wants off the waitlist. The first time I simply deleted the email. Now I have a second student doing this and I’m considering some sort of response. I wouldn’t respond to the request, simply inform them of the proper way to contact me and possibly ask how they found that address.

Has anyone else had this happen?

Best format for in-class questions?

I’d like to pick the brains of my more experienced colleagues. Any recommendations or advice is welcome!

I’m restructuring a course for the Fall. One thing I want to implement is some form of in-class work that’d take ~15-20 minutes.

It’s a STEM course so there’d be a few exam-style questions I want them to finish IN-CLASS (not homework) related to what was just covered in lecture.

I want it to be for credit so that they’re motivated to complete the questions, but I don’t want to field through emails about making it up when students inevitably miss class. I was thinking about dropping a certain number of them.

Should I print physical“worksheets” for each class? Has anyone had any success with polling programs? I don’t want to pay for any apps or subscriptions.

I’ve previously used an online homework platform that I’m not happy with. I’m considering moving away from homework entirely and just doing the in-class questions. Has anyone taught a STEM course with no out-of-class homework?

Recommendations for a trendy bob

I have had a bob haircut for the past ten years. I have tried having it longer or shorter but can’t stand it for long. I love the bob length but am kinda bored with my current style. I feel like my bob is stuck in 2016.

I am young (late 20s) and usually pretty bold with my hair. I don’t want to look like a soccer mom. I have VERY thick and coarse hair that is naturally wavy. My hair is currently a few inches past my chin with some layers, no bangs, and a side part (I can’t pull off the middle part that’s in right now).

Does anyone have any recommendations for a bob hairstyle that feels fun, young, and trendy?

Accommodations office won’t proctor at the scheduled exam time

I’m trying to see how unreasonable my expectations are here.

A student in my class made an appointment with the disability office to take the exam in better conditions. Staff scheduled the testing appointment for FOUR HOURS before the rest of the class begins the exam. Their reasoning is that staff are not in the office after a certain hour and it’s an evening class.

I have no problems letting my student start sooner, but I don’t want this student to finish before the rest of the class has begun. Theoretically this student could blab the whole exam to other students in the class and wreck the integrity of it all.

Am I asking too much that the accommodated test and standard test windows overlap? I would never ask someone to work past the time they’re scheduled, but shouldn’t at least one person be scheduled to work during times when classes are taking place?
