Need Advice Buying Hair Extensions for My Wife

Hi everyone,
My wife’s birthday is coming up and I’d really like to surprise her with high-quality hair extensions. The problem is… I know absolutely nothing about them.
I’ve started looking online, but there are so many brands and methods (tape-ins, keratin, clip-ins, wefts, etc.) that I’m honestly overwhelmed. Since they’re pretty expensive, I don’t want to waste money on something that isn’t good quality or won’t work for her.
If you were buying extensions for your wife or girlfriend, where would you even start? Is it better to buy the hair first and then find a stylist, or should I let the salon provide everything?
I’d really appreciate any advice, recommendations, or things I should avoid. Thanks in advance!

Boring hair

I feel like I need to do something different with my hair but I don’t know what. I have had the same hairstyle for so long. Every once in a while I will chop off a few inches and it will be at armpit length but I always regret it. I tried going really short when I was 13 but it did not look good. Ever since then i have been scared to do anything different but I am tired of having the same hairstyle. A part of me wants to get bangs but all my friends say it’s a bad idea and I’m hesitant to color it because I don’t want to damage my hair. Any advice?

Blonde ‘balayage’ didn’t turn out how I wanted

Here is my hair journey for background info: I had my hair done in March 2025, and I absolutely loved it, both when it was fresh and as it eventually grew out. I will insert some pictures of what it looked like in different lighting and different stages of growth.

In March 2026, I felt like I needed a refresh, I will show you what it looked like before and after I got it done (beginning of march). (I had been using keracolor honey conditioner prior to because it had been looking lifeless.) I couldn’t go back to my original hairdresser because I have moved far away. I showed the new hairdresser the same reference photo, gave same instructions, and it seemed fine at the salon, but when I got home and saw it, I was very unhappy with how it turned out — it looked way too thin/stripey and extremely unblended. I went back and asked her if she could blend it a bit, but she just added some kind of toner/gloss which helped a little, but eventually washed out pretty quickly.

I have an important formal event coming up and I thought I would treat myself and try to fix my hair again. I went to the same hairdresser because I thought maybe we just had a miscommunication last time. I showed her reference photos of my own hair last year after I had just gotten it done, and said please just try to blend it, and make it look more like this. I don’t want it to be too light, just blend whatever I already have. Lo and behold, the highlights are more blended with the rest of the hair, but it turned out WAY too light. Also it is not very blended with the root, giving a “grown out” appearance despite being freshly done.

My hair has been processed many times and I am worried now my hair is going to become damaged very easily due to the summer sun, frequent washing due to sports, swimming, etc. I just wanted a low maintenance, natural-looking soft highlight like before and I am left wishing I had never touched it at all. I have decided I never want to go back to her again, and I have also now banned myself from getting any color treatment for AT LEAST the next year.

I want to try fixing it myself at home now because I am upset and I really don’t want to go back. I did some research online and was thinking to get a demi permanent color (wella 7N?) , and try to add some thin pieces to break up the heavy bright blond chunks, and maybe a toner/gloss on the whole head to bring it down a bit and make it more cohesive. Is this the right move? Do you guys have any advice for which demi permanent color I should get, and what specific toner will help me achieve my goal? If not, is there anything else you would recommend me to try?

Also if I end up going back to the hairdresser (in a year or however long), what are the proper instructions I can give to the stylist to get my desired outcome?

28 never dyed my hair

So I've never dyed my hair before, always wanted to but when I lived with my parents they wouldn't let me then when I got into a relationship he also asked me not to. I'm now single and old enough to do what I want and I really want to dye my hair dark, like either very dark brown or black. My hair is mousy blonde and gets greasy really quick but otherwise in good condition. Those of you who colour your hair regularly, do you wish you never did? Do you enjoy the upkeep or find it tedious? Is it an expensive habit even if I use box dye? I feel like because I've never done it before, I should just stick to my natural colour, but I really want to change my appearance

Has anyone used TYMO Curlpro? Does the anti-tangle feature actually work?

Hi everyone! I’m pretty clumsy when it comes to doing my own hair😂 and I often end up getting my hair tangled when I try to curl it.

I saw that the TYMO CURLPRO is reasonably priced and has an intelligent anti-tangling feature, which sounds really appealing. But I’m wondering whether anyone has actually experienced the anti-tangle feature in real life. Does it genuinely work?

Why can't they get my haircut right?

I tried to explain as best as I could how I wanted it and how short I wanted the layers to be. I also asked for curtain bangs, and she said that wouldn't look good on me because my hair isn't rebond-straight. I told them it's what I wanted, and I've had bangs like that before. They said, "Okay."

She started cutting my hair, and in the middle of it, I asked why she was cutting it so differently from the hairstyle we agreed on. She told me that it's not done yet, so I waited. After a few minutes, nothing changed, and when they were already blow-drying it, I asked them if we could do the layers like we talked about. But they kept saying, "No, that won't look good on you," and they kept telling me to get a rebond from them, then that kind of cut would look good on me.

So I went home with a haircut I don't like. It pisses me off since my parents don't want me to cut my hair, so they didn't give me money for it. I had to help my uncle with chores for coins until I saved up enough for a haircut.

This is my first time getting a haircut without my parents with me.

What would cause Got2b Metallics to just rinse out of daughters hair?

I usually just dye her hair with Kool-Aid and it stays for MONTHS. She insisted she wanted this blue and I finally caved and it literally just rinsed out of her hair after 30 minutes of sitting. The only thing it dyed was random spots by her scalp.

I've used this dye for my own hair with no issues, so maybe just a fluke?

I Don't Get It

I have 10 photos (newest->oldest)

I don't understand what to tailor to when it comes to my face, with face shapes, eye color, and hair length to take into account.

I also don't know if I am struggling with thinning hair, receding hairline, or male pattern baldness, nor do I know what I could do to prevent or recover, so help would be appreciated 👏

I just need some light or path I need to follow to achieve a nice haircut that suits me.

Finally had enough and shaved it all off

42F. Over the years I have had every hairstyle in the world. Long, short, various colours, but I never find one that I can stick with. I have very fine, very dense hair with a bit of an unruly wave that I can rarely tame because my hair is so heavy it gets weighed down. I work in a kitchen (I own two cafes so I work 5-7 days per week) so my hair is always tied back. Most recently I had an undercut that I *loved*, when it was styled it was light enough to sit nicely and looked super cool and edgy, but in the 6 months I had it I must have had it styled about 5 times. The rest of the time it was pinned up for work. In the excessive heat last week my kitchen reached 50C and I'd just had enough so I decided to cut it all off and start again (my poor long suffering hairdresser had a wonderful time making me look ridiculous during the process 🤣)

I actually quite like the buzz cut, but my husband hates it 🤣 I do have some weird lines and partings that are presumably caused by having my hair tied back constantly, I'm getting a touch up in a few weeks to see if we can straighten them out. Long term I want to try and figure out what might suit me so I have something to aim for, anyone have any thoughts??

thinking about chopping my hair off

my hair is currently the longest it’s ever been in my life. i’ve had short hair pretty much my whole life and wanted to try growing it out. i liked it for a while but my hair has started to drive me crazy. it’s super thick so this summer has been brutal for me. it also makes me look way younger than i actually am. i’m 29 and i’ve had multiple people ask me where i go to school. i’d love to chop it off Rama Duwaji style, but i fear i am not as cool as her and i’m insecure about my lack of jawline. i don’t know if my face is strong enough for it. i would love to hear outside perspectives and advice on what i should do with my hair.
first pic is me now with long (for me) hair, second pic is me 5 years ago with shorter hair, third pic is Rama Duwaji and what i’d love to do with mine but i’m not sure if i’d look good with her hair.

What is up with my hair?

I have medium length hair. I would decribe it as wavy dark brown hair, when not brushed out. Sometimes, when i go through my hair i find very coarse mini hair on top of my head. Usually it grows in the same area. The texture feels weird too. Does anyone have the same „issue“?

DIY layers attempt..how bad is it

How choppy are the layers and should I go to a professional to clean it up? Anything else I can do myself? Does it at least look intentionally messy choppy lol?

Help with formula?

Pic 1-2 desired results 3-5 current color

I’ve been trying to achieve this kind of muted red color. The formula I used was 1-3 parts 8N to 8CG chi ionic hair color with a ribbon of 6RR. I had some 6RR leftover from a previous color I had.

The color I got was more golden than I wanted. It’s so close to being what I want but how can I tweak this to make it more reddish than gold/orange?

Could I pull of this hairstyle? + What hair products should I use?

Hello! My hair sucks. I've never been able to get it to look good and I want to change that.

I don't know anything about hair or why my hair looks like that and I really want a different haircut from what I've been doing my entire life.

I really like all the haircuts in the second photo but I don't know if any of them are even possible for me. My favorite is the middle photo, but I like the one in the top middle spot a lot too!

I've never straightened or curled my hair before, I have bleached my hair in a peekaboo style and I dye it pink, although it's been a while since last time (you can see some of the bleached hair on my neck in the first photo)

I'm feeling a bit down over my hair so sorry that I wrote the post like that (I sound like the guy from american psycho in that last paragraph lmao) Even if I can't get my hair to look like the inspo I hope I get some good advice!

What color should I go next?

The first picture is all the way back in October! I’ve done mostly reds since then but I’m ready for a change. On my page I have another hair post- I’ve done every color on the rainbow! Honestly I don’t know what MY COLOR is though. I’m ready to commit and stop color hopping for awhile to recoup my hair. Help!!! 😫
