I built a Standard deck on Arena around the following cards (in ideal draw and turn order).

Turn 1:

Aegis Turtle

Turn 2:

Dive Down (or Chase Inspiration)

Ghalta the Immovable

Turn 3:

Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive

Aegis turtle with Dive Down makes Ghalta cost 'W', allowing a turn 2 drop and an 8/8 turtle attacking. Tetsuko makes your turtle and Ghalta unblockable.

Hadn't seen this combo listed before (though I'm not heavy in the community). What would you add?

I received this product for free from LG as part of an event. While I was asked to share my review, all opinions are entirely my own.

Unboxing & Setup:

The unboxing experience was surprisingly plain for a higher‑end monitor. The packaging was sturdy and protective, but visually and tactilely ordinary.  There was no flashy branding or even any color accents, not even on the user manual. I don’t expect Apple‑style theatrics, but I do expect something that signals “premium.” The best way I can describe the packaging is “functional”.

The power brick, on the other hand, did make an impression.  It’s massive! Not good or bad, just one of those moments that tickled my brain.

Setup itself was straightforward. The stand attaches easily, the panel locks in cleanly, and everything feels secure. The included cables are thick which can make cable management trickier.

One thing I appreciated immediately was the flat monitor base. It’s far more space‑conscious than the typical V‑shaped gaming stand, and it gives my keyboard and coffee mug a much more comfortable fit. A small quality‑of‑life improvement, but one I noticed right away.

The Rear RGB is a fun surprise, even if my current setup doesn’t benefit from it.

Where the setup experience could be significantly improved is in the lack of a feature quick‑start guide. This monitor has a lot of capability and I still lack confidence that I am properly taking full advantage of it.  I found myself asking questions that could have been answered in a single page:

• DisplayPort vs HDMI — Is there a meaningful benefit in choosing one over the other?
• Brightness & display mode — Out of the box, the monitor looked dim and I was unimpressed. I didn’t realize I needed to monkey with the settings to unleash the full HDR brightness.
• Dual‑Mode clarity — The UI displays “Activated” but what does that mean?  Does activated mean 5k or 1440p? (it’s the later).
• AI upscaling defaults — What mode is it using? When should I change it? What visual cues should I look for?
• Game profile guidance — With 5K, AI upscaling, and Dual‑Mode all in play, there’s a lot of trial and error when establishing game settings.  A recommended settings library based on similar hardware profiles or even better, an in‑monitor assistant that reacts to frame drops would be incredible.  Game setup is so much more involved than a traditional experience since you have to balance both game settings and monitor settings.

HDR 1000 on a 27" Screen:

Combining the 1250 nits peak brightness with the Hyper Mini LED and HDR 1000 on a 27” monitor is a triumph for everyday productivity.

The brightness and crispness were instantly noticeable while working with text, UI elements, and small visual details.  Activating Dual‑Mode (1440p) during productivity is a quick reminder of what life was like before 5k and 218 PPI.

My office is almost entirely surrounded with windows plus a skylight overhead and is located on the sunny side of the house. I’ve struggled in this environment in the past with my previous LG monitor (27GL83A‑B).  The brightness cuts straight through the natural light, and the matte finish keeps glare under control. Even at noon, when the room is at its brightest, the screen continues to provide a comfortable and uninterrupted viewing experience.

I’ll save the deeper HDR gaming analysis for the second review, but even in day‑one productivity use, the concentrated brightness on a 27-inch panel feels focused, intense, and genuinely useful.

What I’d Like Improved: A few early areas where refinement would help:

• A more premium unboxing experience
• A feature quick‑start guide for key settings
• The joystick‑only control system - The monitor relies on a single joystick button for all settings navigation. I’ve used this before on my previous LG monitor, and I still find it clumsy, especially because I switch inputs frequently between my work and home PCs. It takes five separate “clicks” to change inputs. The auto‑detection on the ports is genuinely helpful, but a faster or more flexible input‑switching method would make a big difference.
