What makes something Lego?

I know this may sound like a dumb question, but I’ve been thinking about it for a while and was curious what others might think. There are so many different things under the LEGO umbrella that I’ve started to wonder if, at some point, LEGO stops being LEGO.

Is Technic less LEGO than System? Are Friends mini-dolls as much LEGO as minifigs? How do cloth accessories (like capes or sails), rubber bands, or string elements fit in? Are they LEGO too, or just accessories to LEGO? What about bendable tubes or highly specialized pieces?

There’s DUPLO, System, Technic, Mindstorms, minifigs, mini-dolls, printed pieces, non-printed pieces, rubber, plastic, cloth, and string - all under the LEGO name. So what makes something LEGO? Is it just the name on the box, or is there something else that makes it special?

2x Points…and Grond!!

I’m sure I’ll get hate for another box post, but I’m super excited that my wife and I were able to take a trip (3 hrs) to our state’s only LEGO store for the 2x points promotion. Even better, the store still had Grond (a lot actually), and they were cool enough to give me one. Still can’t believe I was able to get double points and Grond.

Lego Room Lighting Update

I posted about my new shelves a while back, and even though I’ve been really happy with them, something just felt like it was missing. I recently added some new lighting, and I think it made all the difference. I’d been trying to find something reasonably affordable, wireless, rechargeable, and remote-controlled, and I finally found something that does the trick. A little rearranging and a few new acrylic stands helped a lot too. Best of all, I still have room for a few more sets.

OneWorld Canine Obstacle Run

OneWorld Canine in Anniston, AL hosted their semi-annual OneWorld Canine Obstacle Run this past weekend, and I think it’s safe to say Shiloh had a blast. My wife kept saying how proud she was of him for listening to her and staying focused, even with all the other competitors around. After 30+ obstacles, 4+ miles, and roughly two hours, I think Shiloh now considers himself an elite athlete.

100,000 Mile Anniversary

Just hit 100,000 miles yesterday, and it got me thinking about everything my Taco and I have been through together. From being my first brand-new vehicle, to my off-roading experiences (and mistakes) in Alabama foothills, to helping me get married and all the many other memories and mods in between, we’ve had quite a ride. Here’s to the first 100,000 miles - and many more to come.
