I decorated my office today

I work from home and my office was due a freshen up. I bought some Beano wallpaper from someone on Vinted and painted the other walls with some colour matched paint. I'd have loved this as my bedroom growing up and now I'm a grown up I can do what I want 😂

The canvas above the computer is a Nigel Parkinson 'the evolution of Dennis the Menace' (it doesn't look centred on the wall but it is) and the framed picture on the right is a set of Beano/Dandy Basset cards.

I've also got a set of Beano Ukuleles ready to hang on the wall which you can see on the printer in the second photo.

Changing seized stop tap

I've got a stop tap in my 1970s house which is very difficult to turn and basically seized. I've put some plus gas on the spindle and got it to turn a bit, but I'm wary as the water main is black plastic and probably brittle.

I've done plenty of plumbing bits myself (changing rads, sinks, toilets, re-routing pipes) but I'm thinking changing this could turn into a big job.

I'm assuming the steps would be -

  1. Isolate the supply outside the house

  2. Drain down (either from taps downstairs or there's actually a radiator style drain down valve on the other end of this run).

  3. As decades of people have painted this tap with layers of gloss, I'm guessing it would be easier to cut the pipe below the tap. Also, as the house is 1970s, I'm also guessing I'll need some sort of conversion from imperial to metric or buy an appropriate tap for imperial mains pipe.

  4. Fit the new tap compression olives etc. as normal

  5. Hope for the best when I turn it back on.

Does this sound sensible and has anyone else been in a similar situation? At least it's not lead I guess 🤣 Am I better off getting a plumber in for this? I imagine the pipe will be brittle and I've only got about 3 inches of pipe before the floor level anyway.
