best macbook air for college work and light video editing in 2026?

I’m looking to upgrade my laptop before school starts because my old Windows one is starting to slow down a lot and battery barely lasts a few hours now. I’ve been looking at the MacBook Air since I don’t really need anything super powerful, mostly for docs, browsing, coding classes, and some light video editing for projects. I’m a bit confused with the newer chip options and whether it’s worth going higher than the base model.

For anyone using a MacBook Air right now, is the base RAM still enough or should I really go for 16GB to avoid it feeling slow after a year or two? Also, is there a big difference between the 13 inch and 15 inch in daily use or is it mostly just screen size preference? Thanks in advance

best macbook air for someone who mainly uses Chrome and multitasks all day?

My current laptop is struggling hard lately and I’m finally thinking about moving to a MacBook Air. I usually have way too many tabs open, Spotify running, some docs, Zoom calls, and random stuff in the background. Nothing super heavy but enough that cheap laptops always start lagging after a while.

For anyone here using the best macbook air for similar everyday use, what specs actually made a noticeable difference for you? Mainly unsure if upgrading RAM is worth it. thanks

why do people blast videos out loud in public like headphones don't exist?

i genuinely do not understand how someone can sit in a waiting room or on public transport scrolling videos at full volume and think nobody else minds. it’s so obnoxious. everyone around you is forced to listen to random clips and sound effects for no reason. headphones are cheap and literally made for this exact situation.
