Tax burden for Roth conversions

Hoping someone can help here. I’m trying to figure out where PL models where the money comes from for taxes for Roth conversions.

For example, on the “Conversion Plan” chart, it says I should convert $82k in 2027. And when I look at the detail breakdown, it says that my balance will indeed be $82k starting in 2028. And when I look at the withdrawals I see in 2027 for expenses (from cash and taxable accounts), I’m basically withdrawing just enough money to cover those. So I’m not seeing where the money comes from to pay for the roughly $18k in federal taxes due for the 2027 tax year.

I’m sure it’s something obvious, but I’m not seeing anything that clearly points this out. Thoughts?

Thanks.

Freedom!!

Follow up to a previous post. 56M and today is my first day of freedom! Said my goodbyes to coworkers last Friday. Now I’m sitting on my back patio watching squirrels frolicking around with an espresso in hand. Guess I’ll start packing my suitcase for my France riverboat cruise today.

It’s funny to me that the least supportive person who knows about my retirement is my mother (86). She keeps telling me I’m going to lose all my money and is subtly implying I’m lazy. But ya gotta love your mother right?

House went on the market last week and new, much smaller and easier to maintain home already purchased. Moving trucks arrive at the end of August. Been downsizing for a couple months. It’s insane the amount of junk I’ve collected over the years, but not hoarder level I guess.

Anyhow, on to the great unknown. I can already feel the stress leaving my body. Cheers!

Milling down pre-finished wood

Hi there folks,

Any thoughts on milling down pre-finished wood?

I have this 3/4" thick trim boards that need to fit in a space between to columns. The issue is, the boards are about 1/8" too thick. Is it crazy to plane these down 1/8"? I pretty much cannot ruin these boards so I would have to be extra-careful and obviously use sharp blades?

Is this silly or do ya'll think it can be done?

EDIT: Thanks for all the advice everyone. I ended up just ripping them through my table saw with the blades set half way up the board and then flipping them over for a second pass. Worked like a charm.

My turn

Just gave my boss notice 15 minutes ago. I'll be officially retired on July 24th at 56 1/2 years old. The weight of being consistently employed since 14 has been lifted. Moving to a MCOL area to a fully paid off house, 2.6M in investments, and 300k cash on hand. Other than a riverboat cruise down the Bordeaux region of France at the end of July, I have no idea what the future holds.

I honestly doubt I'll stay "retired", but I can guarantee there will be at least a year-long sabbatical to figure out what I want to do when I grow up!

Cheers everyone!

Stain for slider doors

Hi there. I have these slider doors with unfinished pine frames. I’d like these to be a chocolate color and Im trying to hide as much grain as possible. I don’t want to paint them so I’m wondering, will a solid color stain work well enough here? Anyone have a recommendation on an interior solid color stain to use?

Also, should I use a wood pre-conditioner here?

Thanks.
