New Free to Play Online Card Game

Do you only enjoy playing physical card games or do you also enjoy playing them digitally?

We’ve been working on a number of new board and card games, and The Cape just kind of happened along the way.

The game is a PvE on-line trick-taking card game with a Cape Breton, Nova Scotia (Canada) theme.

The game is free to play, with the option of contributing (Buy Me a Coffee-style) with proceeds destined for the eventual creation of a physical version.

Any aspiring card game developers are also welcome to use our Card Forge placeholder/prototyping tool (also free) to quickly churn out an initial printable deck for play-testing.

Another playtest kit heading out!

So much work goes into putting together another prototype DUGG game kit to give to playtesters.

A labour of love though, and it will be so worth it in the end (or so they say).

Anyone else care to share how many hours they’ve spent playing kindergarten crafts to send their dream game off to be scrutinized?

For those on a shoestring, do you sub paper for cards, and cardboard for meeples? If not, how have you done it? Would love to hear other prototype and playtest prep stories.

Do you think it’s worth it to spend a bit more for a unique box design or higher quality packaging? What impact do you think it has on the success of a campaign or ultimately on the success of the game itself?

A really productive playtesting session today with our game Don’t Break The Net. (Cards are just placeholders while the art is arting). One of those sessions where you end up breaking the game and it immediately gets 100% better afterward because you saw something you hadn’t seen before.

The game is a speedy party card game where players swap cards in an attempt to achieve X units of weight of fish (the capacity of their net) without going over. Character cards provide certain assistive special abilities, and a Chaos event mid-round can help or hinder along the way.

Tell me about one of your greatest “Bionic Game” moments (where it ended up stronger after being broken and rebuilt).

(Y’all might be getting sick of seeing my crocheted ottoman covers 😂 - I may have to add them to our Tall Box Games logo or something).

Looking for some feedback on a tile design for our upcoming tile-laying, strategy and survival game. Tiles are meant to link up and create pathways that characters follow as they hunt for food, water, campfire fuel, and other things related to the primary objective of the game. Do you prefer the softer one or the more defined one?
