What the Rookie lacks that Bones did well and vice versa
Villains: I feel a major drawback of Rookie is that their overarching villiain arcs are just... meh. I have really not found a single villain to be kind of interesting, formidable or creepy enough. Bones did that really well with the Gravedigger, Pelant, Ghostkiller, Gormagon even Broadsky. The world around them was built well.
Now I get that Bones is FBI based and The Rookie is LAPD and technically the show should not have overarching villains at all. And I agree. But since they do seem to have them - Monica, Rosalind, Elijan Stone and now this prisoner I wish they were better written
The core characters: This is where the Rookie has really excelled. They have managed to create characters that are so loveable and adorable and I am so invested in what happens to them. But Bones somewhat lacked that. I had no interest whatsoever in Cam, Arastoo, Aubrey and the onslaught of interns that kept coming and going.
