The Rams Defense Could Put Up Some Insane Numbers

Last season, the Rams' defense ranked in the top 10. They had many guys making game-changing plays on every snap. But now with the latest additions, their defense is looking like one of the most stacked defenses in the league.

Assuming that no injuries occur, the Rams' defense should be one of the best in the league alongside Denver and Seattle. Every starter on this defense can be a problem for most offenses. Also, with the newest addition of Myles Garrett, it almost seems like it is impossible to stop the Rams' defense. Garrett and Young off the edge with 3 big guys up the middle in Turner, Fiske, Ford, and potentially even Aaron Donald might come back to join this defense given the latest rumors.

When you put that line-up alongside a secondary with some of the best safeties in the league and the newest additions of Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson, you get a defense that should be putting up elite numbers. All of their safeties have had many pass deflections with each of them having an interception or 2 of their own. The corners are also known for locking down receivers and making sure the ball does not get in the receiver's hands.

By looking at the pure strength of this defense on paper, the Rams have the potential to have one of the best-performing defenses in Rams history.

How Much Money Should Puka Nacua Get Paid? 💸

As of right now, Puka has 1 year left with the Rams. This leads many to expect that a contract extension is coming soon, but it’s debatable how much money he should get.

Puka is undoubtedly one of the best receivers in the league and he is only 25 years old. He has shown that he has great potential to become even better. However, a few months ago he did have some concerns with his off-the-field issues. This led many to believe that he should not get paid as much as some of the other top receivers who recently got paid.

Recently, JSN signed a 4-year 168 Million Dollar deal with the Seahawks due to his OPOY season and being a big reason why they went to the Super Bowl. Puka was pretty much at his level and some even say that he is better than JSN. WR Drake London also got a pretty big extension with the Falcons as he received a 4-year 141 Million Dollar extension. This leads many to believe that Puka should receive something in between the JSN and Drake London deal.

Salary Cap Space:
2026 - $18,853,934
2027 - $83,759,402
2028 - $169,739,519

But what do you think? 🤔

Why I Don't Think The Rams Will Make The Super Bowl This Year

(Yes I still think that there is a small chance they do make the Super Bowl, but I think that it is more likely they don’t make it)

Recently, I feel that the Rams are one of the most overrated teams in the NFL. Especially after the Myles Garrett trade, it seems as if most of the league thinks the Rams could make the Super Bowl, but I don’t think they will.

(Schedule)
The Rams have one of the toughest schedules in the league. We have to play the Niners and Seahawks TWICE in a year, and we might even face them again if we make the playoffs. Besides them, we have to play against some of the top teams in the league such as Denver, Buffalo, Philly (who we can’t seem to win against), and the Chargers. I think the Eagles alone makes the schedule much harder for us since we haven’t beaten them in about 5 years (in 2020). Even some of the other opponents I haven’t mentioned are still pretty solid and will still be tough to beat such as Dallas, KC, and GB.

(Roster)
ON PAPER, it seems that the Rams have the best roster in the league, but if you pay attention, it’s clear that they don’t. Sure, we have 2 top 10 receivers in Puka and Adams, but outside of them there is pretty much NO talent. If one of them goes down with an injury, our passing game will drop significantly. Take a look at the Seahawks for example, outside of JSN, they have tons of talent with Cooper Kupp and Rashid Shaheed. They also have some pretty solid backup receivers. Unless we sign or trade for a solid WR3, we may have a huge hole at WR. Also, now that Stafford and Tae are getting older, are they still going to be able to play at the elite level that they did last year? Will Stafford still be an MVP Candidate? Maybe, maybe not.

Take a look at defense as well. Yes, we did bring in former Chiefs McDuffie and Watson, but we lost many others. Our 3rd CB is Emmanuel Forbes Jr who is great, but outside of him we don’t have much. And at Edge Rusher, we did bring in Garrett but we lost Verse. So if Garrett gets injured, we don’t have anyone else who could fill in that hole. Take a look at Green Bay for example, when they lost Parsons due to injury, their defense was nowhere near as elite as they ended up dropping down to the 7th seed and losing in the wild card game. Also, are MLBs are rated below average based on their performance last year. If we really want to have the best defense, we need to have our holes filled. Take a look at Seattle last season for example. They had NO HOLES in their defense and were the best in the league. So how are we going to be the best if we still have holes and don’t have much depth?

(Previous Issues)
Special Teams was one of the main reasons why the Rams weren’t one of the best teams last year. Sure, we did get a new kicker and special teams coordinator, but how much can they really do to prevent our field goals from getting blocked? If are game winning field goal attempts are being blocked, how can you truly trust in the field goal unit?

The secondary was also a pretty big issue last season. Although we did bring in 2 new CBs, but we still don’t have depth outside of those 2. If one of them gets injured, our secondary could fall flat and we could end up just like how we did last year with our DBs getting burnt by WRs like JSN.

(Coaching)
This offseason we lost OC Mike LaFleur who helped Stafford with his MVP season. Now that he is gone, how do we truly know if our offense is still going to be as good as it was last year?

Is The NFL Overrating The Rams?

Recently, many NFL fans and insiders have been predicting that the Rams will win the Super Bowl. Some bolder predictions also predict that the Rams could go undefeated based on their current roster. However, I could also see a world where the Rams don't actually make the Super Bowl, nor go undefeated. Many issues could happen that could completely flip the predictions.

Around the beginning of last season, Matthew Stafford had back issues that led many to speculate whether he could still play at the elite level he has maintained in LA. Although Stafford was still able to play at his best and even won MVP, he is still one of the older QBs in the NFL at age 38. If Stafford gets an injury for even a few games, the team could still be in trouble. Even though the Rams drafted Alabama QB Ty Simpson with pick 13, Simpson might not be ready to handle the pressure of replacing Stafford in the middle of the year. When Stafford's last got injured in 2022, McVay and the Rams struggled to keep winning games as they went 5-12 and missed the playoffs. It's hard to imagine that the Rams could still be contenders without the reigning MVP Matthew Stafford.

Although the Rams have one of the top receivers in the league (Puka Nacua) and the receiving touchdown leader (Davante Adams), there isn't much talent outside of those 2. Even though the Rams drafted a 6th-round receiver in the draft (CJ Daniels), CJ may not be ready to fill the major role that Nacua or Adams has on the offense. Both Nacua and Adams also got injured last season for a short period of time. Because Adams is 33, he is more vulnerable to injury than ever. Unless the Rams sign a WR 3 for this season, they could have a hole in their offense.

Moving on to the defense, the Rams have acquired many defensive pieces this offseason. They have made trades for major defensive talent in Trent McDuffie and Myles Garrett. Although Trent is a young cornerback, Myles is 30 years old. Most linebackers at age 30 are usually more likely to get injured. Because Jared Verse has been traded to Cleveland, there is currently no backup for Garrett if an injury does occur. The Rams also have a below-average group of middle linebackers. Although Nate Landman is known for his punch-outs and Omar Speights is great at getting tackles, they have been rated average or below average when compared to other MLBs. The Rams have elite safeties without injury concerns, but the cornerbacks do have a lack of depth. Outside of Trent, Jaylen Watson, and Emanuel Forbes Jr, the Rams have a severe lack of talent. If an injury occurs, it could become a real problem.

Last season the Special Teams was an issue. However, they did sign a new kicker who was great in the playoffs. They also signed new special teams pieces and a new coordinator this offseason. Based on the current special teams roster, it seems like the Rams will not have a special teams as bad as last season.

Many NFL insiders and reporters have made many predictions on how the Rams' season will go. Some say that the Rams could be one of the toughest teams in the league, while others predict that the Rams could go undefeated. But I don't think that many of them understand the strength of the Rams' schedule. The Rams have to play against 7 playoff teams from last season who were all some of the top teams last year. Besides them, there is also a lot of hidden talent that other teams have in the league that goes unnoticed. This gives the Rams one of the hardest schedules in the NFL this year.
