How does Quebec Demerit points work fir non-residents from states that don’t talk with Quebec?
I’m from a US state that does not have a reciprocity agreement with Quebec so they don’t share the driving tickets etc with eachother.
Today I got a copy of my driving record from SAAQ.
In the first section, “Driver’s License”, last paragraph says that I’m in 4 point bracket and “You currently have 0 demerit points on your record”.
Then the next section “Offenses resulting in demerit points”, lists my ticket which has 18 demerits (excessive speed).
My conviction date was 8 months ago and the penalty section only lists one “roadside suspension” which was done at the time of infraction and one suspension for unpaid fines which is currently active (which I’m planning to pay).
I’m afraid of paying the fine and still remaining suspended.
So how these points work? The SAAQ employee told me those points simply don’t apply since I’m a non-resident and not from ON, ME or NY, but I’m taking that with a large grain of salt.
