Dad with Alzheimer's and a catheter, forgets he has a catheter and goes to the bathroom like 20x a day.
I understand you're not really supposed to tell folks with AD they're forgetting things so maybe there simply is no solution on this one but it makes it really hard to leave the house or take him anywhere when dad has to pee, puts his shoes on, forgets he was just in the bathroom and decides he needs to pee again, grabs a glass of milk before we hit the road, forgets and has to pee again and so on, sometime 4 times before we actually leave the house. Then again right when we get to where we're going, then again before we can go back home.
I'm not sure what he's doing in there. I suppose rediscovering he has a catheter and wondering what the heck is going on for a minute. Then leaving and promptly forgetting the catheter but when mom tried to tell him he didn't have to because he has a catheter he just kind of ignored her like that was crazy talk and did his thing. His laidback personality has really made a lot of easier I think, but his lifelong perhaps excess confidence that he knows what's going on is one aspect of it that very much hasn't.
He does get UTIs and we're doing what we can to treat that but I suspect it's also just the catheter as I recall similar sensations when I had one without a UTI and feeling kind of like I always needed to pee.
Ideas are welcome but I suppose it's also just helpful to air this one out..
