Breaking into baking and pastry as a career – looking for advice

I’m 26 and seriously considering a career in baking and pastry. I’d love to hear from people who are already in the industry, no matter where you’re from.

Did you go to culinary school, or did you learn on the job? Looking back, was culinary school worth the investment, or would you take a different route if you were starting over?

My goal isn’t just to get a job…..I genuinely want to master the craft and become as skilled as I can. I’m happy to start from the bottom and put in the hours. I know the early years can be physically demanding, but I’ve been working since high school and have six years of experience in food manufacturing, so hard work doesn’t scare me.

Right now, my plan is to get formal training, work full time as a baker or pastry chef, keep learning every day, and gradually move into higher roles as my skills improve. Does that sound like a realistic path?

If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting from scratch, what would it be? I’d really appreciate hearing about your journey, what worked, what didn’t, and anything you wish you had known before entering the profession.

Breaking into baking and pastry as a career – looking for advice

I’m 26 M and seriously thinking about pursuing baking and pastry full time. I’ve been looking at joining Lavonne Culinary school (Bangalore, India) in the January 2027 batch, but I’d love to hear from people who’ve studied there or at any other culinary school.

Is culinary school really necessary to break into the industry, or is it possible to learn on the job if you’re willing to put in the work?

My goal isn’t just to get a job….I genuinely want to become really good at the craft. I’m happy to start from the bottom, work long hours, and keep learning. I know the first few years can be physically demanding, but I’ve been working since I finished high school and spent the last six years in food manufacturing abroad, so hard work and overtime don’t bother me.

The plan in my head is to study, work as a baker or pastry chef for a couple of years, keep improving my skills, and hopefully grow into higher roles over time. Is that a realistic path in India?

I’ll be moving from North India, renting a place, and probably working part time while studying if needed.
I’d really appreciate honest advice from people already in the industry. If you were starting from scratch today, what would you do differently? Is Lavonne worth it, and what should I know before taking the plunge?

Complete beginner looking to build a baking setup (₹30k budget)

Hi everyone!

I’m looking to get into baking seriously and would love some advice. My budget for an OTG is around ₹10,000, so I’d appreciate recommendations for a reliable oven with good temperature consistency.

I’m also looking for books that teach the science of baking rather than just recipes. I want to understand the fundamentals on why things work, not just how to make them.

The ingredients are pretty straightforward, but I’d love recommendations for good baking tools, accessories, and brands available in India. Long term, I’m even considering joining Lavonne, so I’d like to build a solid foundation first.

Any recommendations for ovens, books, or must-have equipment would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

LFP - Middle East/ Asia region

We’re a group of 4 regular players looking to add a few sensible teammates to our club.

What we’re looking for:

Team players with good decision-making

Consistent performers who understand the game

No mic required

PlayStation preferred (for easier messaging and coordination)

We’re competitive and like to win, but we’re not the type to flame or berate people after a bad game. Everyone has off days. We believe that form is temporary, class is permanent but we do expect players to contribute and perform consistently over time.

We do have certain standards in the club regarding teamwork, positioning, and attitude. If you’re willing to learn, communicate, and play for the badge, you’ll fit right in.

Region: Middle East / Asia

Play Times: Most evenings after 7 PM

About to buy my first bike and having serious analysis paralysis

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to buy my first bike and could use some advice from people with more experience.

For context, I can drive a car, ride a scooter, and have spent plenty of time on a bicycle, but I’ve never actually owned or regularly ridden a motorcycle before. So I’m excited, but also a little nervous about making the wrong choice.

After doing a lot of research, I’ve started feeling like maybe I shouldn’t jump straight into a 650cc bike. A lot of people seem to say that the weight matters more than the power for a beginner, especially in city traffic.

My use case is pretty simple:

  1. Mostly city riding
  2. Probably little to no touring
  3. Decent fuel efficiency would be nice
  4. I enjoy customizing things, so I might do modifications
  5. Budget is around ₹6 lakh

Right now I’ve narrowed it down to:

  1. Interceptor 650
  2. Guerrilla 450
  3. Super Meteor 350
  4. Classic 350
  5. Himalayan

That said, I’m completely open to other suggestions if there’s something better suited to a new rider.
If you were buying your first bike today with my requirements, what would you go for and why?
Looking forward to joining the biking community soon. Equal parts excited and slightly terrified. 😅

Met Nehal Wadhera at the gym today 🦁❤️

Was just wrapping up my workout and getting ready to leave when I saw someone walk in. For a second I thought, “Nah, that can’t be him” But the more I looked, the more I felt it actually was

So I walked up to him and asked, “Bro, are you Nehal?” He smiled and said, “Yeah”

Not gonna lie, I instantly lit up. As a Punjab Kings fan, I was genuinely excited. We ended up chatting for a couple of minutes and he was super humble and easy to talk to

I told him how frustrated we all were as fans this season. Even told him that I had bought playoff tickets but never got to use them because Punjab didn’t make it. He just smiled and said, “Next year we shall win it”

Simple words, but hearing that directly from a player felt pretty cool

We shook hands, clicked a picture, wished each other well, and he headed for his workout while I left the gym with a huge smile on my face

Always nice when athletes turn out to be as grounded in person as they seem from a distance. Really hoping he has a massive season next year

Wholesome gym encounter I’ll remember for a long time 🏏🔥💯
