S/G/V Promotion

First of all, is it worth staying?

I just need to vent because this has genuinely been affecting my sanity lately.

It came to my attention that I’m apparently not eligible for promotion—not because I didn’t do the work, not because I wasn’t capable, but simply because no one from the higher positions vouched for me.

For context, I’ve been handling multiple accounts and, in many instances, I was already acting as the senior-in-charge. I took ownership of my engagements, handled the workload, followed up with people, dealt with clients, and tried my best to make sure everything got done. During busy season, I was constantly juggling deadlines and responsibilities, trying to prove that I was ready for the next level. And i can say, i delievered most of them — if not all — smoothly.

We also have this feedback system online where seniors and managers provide comments about our performance. And based on the feedback I was receiving, I genuinely thought I was doing well.

I remember seeing comments saying “exceeded expectations.” So naturally, I thought, Okay, maybe I’m actually doing something right. Maybe they see my efforts. Maybe this is finally the year.

So imagine my shock when the deliberation came, and suddenly, I was told that I didn’t make the cut.

Apparently, I “failed.”

And that’s where I’m struggling to make sense of everything.

How can I be “exceeding expectations” in the feedback, be trusted to handle accounts and act as senior-in-charge, carry responsibilities beyond my level, and then suddenly be deemed not good enough when promotion season comes?

What happened between those feedback forms and the deliberation?

Did all the work I did suddenly become irrelevant?

Did the responsibilities I took on not count?

Did the times I stepped up when no one else wanted to count for nothing?

Did the times where i had to juggle work and become preparer and reviewer at the same time because the staff 1 was not able to deliver anything didnt matter?

Or was I simply not lucky enough to have a manager who would stand up and say, “I vouch for this person.”

And honestly, that realization is heartbreaking. Because I used to think that if you worked hard enough, delivered good results, took on responsibilities, and consistently showed that you were ready, eventually people would notice.

Now I’m realizing that sometimes, hard work alone isn’t enough.

Sometimes, it’s not about how much you contributed. It’s about who is willing to speak for you when the room is discussing your future.

And that’s the part that really messes with me.

I’m not even angry because I didn’t get promoted. I’m angry because I genuinely believed I had earned the right to at least be considered seriously. I spent months pushing myself, sacrificing my time, dealing with the pressure, taking on responsibilities that felt beyond my position, and convincing myself that all of it would eventually mean something.

I’m also angry because I recently found out that during the seniors’ deliberation, the feedback against me was apparently focused mainly on the times I couldn’t reply promptly to chats. And honestly, thats so fucked up.

I understand that responsiveness is important, and I acknowledge that there were times when I wasn’t able to reply immediately. But I believe that was reasonable, especially when I was already handling my own workload, it was on a weekend and/or i was on leave. During working hours, I communicated properly and made sure my responsibilities were handled.

What makes it even more frustrating is that apparently, wala raw problema sa technical performance ko. The main concern was basically my responsiveness to chats.
And I’m not saying I’m perfect. I know there were areas where I could improve, and I owned those shortcomings.

I accepted the feedback and tried to work on them.
That’s why it’s frustrating to know that despite the hardwork, what ultimately worked against me was apparently how quickly I responded to messages.

I could have accepted it if I was told that my technical performance or ability to handle accounts wasn’t enough. But finding out that I wasn’t vouched for because of something as subjective as chat responsiveness honestly feels incredibly unfair.

Now I’m sitting here wondering if I was just delusional for thinking I was doing well. Maybe that’s why this hurts so much.

It’s not just about the promotion. It’s about realizing that the version of myself I thought people saw the hardworking, dependable person who could be trusted to handle things, apparently wasn’t enough to make someone vouch for me. And I hate that I’m starting to question myself because of it.

I know how much effort I put in. I know the things I handled. I know the times I stepped up. I know how exhausted I was during busy season.

So maybe I’m allowed to be disappointed.
Maybe I’m allowed to be angry.
Maybe I’m allowed to say that this whole thing feels incredibly unfair.

Because after everything I gave, finding out that I wasn’t promoted because no one advocated for me feels like one of the most painful ways to be told that your hard work wasn’t enough.

And right now, I honestly don’t know what hurts more—the fact that I didn’t get promoted, or the fact that I genuinely thought I was doing well.

Lastly, I just wish my overall performance had been considered—not just the moments when I wasn’t immediately available to reply

EY GDS Senior

For those coming from S/G/V with around 3 years of tax experience, how high would the chances be of being hired directly for a Senior role in EY GDS? Does relevant Big 4 experience generally qualify candidates for Senior-level positions?

Hi! I’m currently a Tax Professional at a Big 4 firm (💛) with 3 years of experience in Philippine tax. I’m a non-CPA and am currently having a hard time looking for a new job, kaya di ako makaresign kasi im just an average individual na umaasa sa sahod so I’d like to secure a new role before resigning. Can anyone refer me or suggest companies that do accept non CPA applicants?

Seeking for Advise and Looking for AU oppurtunities

I have 3 years of tax experience in a Big 4 firm (💛), primarily handling clients in the Financial Services Organization (FSO) sector, including banks, insurance companies, and other financial institutions. I’m not a CPA yet, but I’m considering exploring opportunities outside public practice.

For those who are currently in tax or have transitioned from a Big 4 firm, what companies, industries, or roles would you recommend? I’m also interested in Australian (AU) opportunities —whether in AU taxation, accounting, or shared services. Are there companies that are open to candidates with Philippine tax experience who are willing to train for AU tax?

Also, is it realistic to negotiate a significantly higher salary than my current P33k despite not being licensed yet? Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Seeking Advice 💙

For those with secondment experience, how did you present it on your resume? Did you create a separate job entry for the client/company you were assigned to, or did you simply list it under your current employer since you were still employed by your original company?
