Also, it's basically a 6 minutes scene and that's almost all the time onstage apart from the bow.
Last night, my boyfriend and I heard a few young men yelling at each other in the alley way that my apartment looks out onto. Eventually they resolved it, but the one guy was clearly still bouncing off anger (I think he was drunk). His girlfriend was sitting in the front seat of the car, and as he walked back, he began to yell at her about why she was crying. At this point I felt like I needed to have an eye out for her sake. Suddenly, he squatted down and grabbed her wrists while looking around to see if anyone was nearby. He then climbed into the front passenger seat, and we could still hear him yelling through the closed car in our apartment.
My boyfriend called the cops, and i ensured he named it a domestic. As he is on the phone, the man leaves the front seat and starts rustling through the back passenger side seat for something, and then went back up front.
Literally 5 minutes later they arrived. The cop must have seen him hitting her as he drove up and he immediately pulled the man out and tasered him. The man was fighting the cops, and 2 more cars with 8 officers pulled up. He was cuffed.
Here is where it gets crazy: they start searching his car and they proceed to pull out a HUGE knife. Like one of those illegal hunting knives (im in Canada, knife laws are strict here). What is scary is that they found the knife behind the drivers seat. It made me wonder if he was looking for the knife when he went back there, but because it was on the drivers side he couldn’t find it. Terrifying.
Anyways, the police were with the woman for about an hour, and we weren’t sure if she was going to be detained or anything. Thankfully, it seems she told them he was hitting her (at one point they took a photo of her forehead) and they were all demonstrating a particular way he was hitting. The female cop drove her away in her personal car (i imagine dropping her off at home?)
Anyways, this is your reminder to trust your gut and be an active bystander. I fear what would have happened if no one had eyes on that car in the alley. I hope she gets far, far away from him
