At Last

The moment I’d been waiting for: Our 2026 Outback Limited sitting beside a beautiful stretch of river in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with our fly rods rigged and ready atop the roof. My wife and I spent two warm days trout fishing along the Little River and the Outback handled the drive to, alongside, and back from the stream comfortably and smoothly.

Bonus points for the room to put the rods inside without breaking them down when it was time to change spots. That said, rooftop rod holders are probably in our future.

2026 OB Limited

I need a roof rack/basket sometimes to haul outdoor gear but it’s not something I use all the time.

My first fly fishing vacation in three years is coming up, rooftop storage has been helpful in past outings. After an expensive month, I can’t justify paying top dollar, so I’m considering a Harbor Freight Haul-Master 150 lb. Capacity Roof-Mounted Steel Cargo Carrier.

Do any of you have experience with one or good experience with a similarly priced one? Later this year I’ll probably add roof-top rod carriers and these carriers look like they’d be a good platform for those.

Promise to post a photo of the OB from stream side where its Deep Emerald Green Pearl color should look great.

Many thanks.
