The Urban County Council will schedule a Special Committee of the Whole (COW) Meeting to receive public comment and discuss zoning rules and regulations related to data centers. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 5:30 PM in Council Chambers of the Government Center (200 E. Main Street).
Fifth District Council Member Liz Sheehan, Chair of the General Government & Planning Committee and sponsor of the data center regulatory review said, “We decided to call a special meeting to hear directly from our neighbors and to continue giving this issue the attention and transparency it deserves. We have been working diligently to craft rules for data centers that fit Lexington’s needs, and we want the public to offer us in-person feedback on these regulations at a more accessible time of day than our typical afternoon meetings.”
The Urban County Council will receive the Planning Commission’s recommendations on how to update local zoning rules and vote to formally schedule the October 6, 2026, Special COW during its August 25 Work Session. Additionally, staff from the Division of Planning are scheduled to give an informational presentation to the General Government & Planning Committee on September 8, 2026.
Information on the progress of Fayette County’s data center zoning updates is available to the public on the Engage Lexington platform. Residents are encouraged to learn more and submit written feedback by visiting Engage.LexingtonKY.Gov/DataCenters.

We’re looking for childcare for our little one and could really use some advice or recommendations. Most of the daycare centers we’ve contacted are already fully booked for the year, and we’ve been placed on waitlists wherever possible.
Our parents will be here to help for the next two months, but after that, both of us will be working and we’ll need reliable childcare. In the meantime, we’re hoping to find a decent daycare or another childcare option that can work as a temporary solution until a spot opens up.
What options would you recommend in this situation? Any suggestions for daycares or other reliable alternatives would be greatly appreciated!
Hi! I’ve just come up to Lexington for college but I can’t afford the parking permit, does anyone know of any free parking anywhere near UKY?
well just anywhere you can buy magazines.
I’ve seen architectural digest and people (your big ones) and libraries but hoping someone might know if there’s anywhere you can go to buy some… other options
Did anyone go to the Ren Faire in Lex last year? How was it? I’m not expecting it to be as great as the big, established ones, but is it still worth going to?
A huge thank you goes out to all the great Lexington Redditors who answered my call for turkey leg sources in town. Critchfield Meats was recommended by several of you and for good reason. Today I bought two of the largest T- legs I've ever seen. And unsmoked as well! Added note: Critchfields sells a lot more than meats. They're a full service family market stocked with premium groceries. Check them out on Southland Drive.
Ross (aka Rossy, Rossy-Roo, Ross-a-Roni, Ross-topher) has been looking for his home since Valentine’s Day and he is ready to find his fur-ever home!
This boy walks beautifully on a leash, is crate trained AND fully potty trained; he uses bells, and can navigate a doggy door with ease. He would love a home with someone(s) home more often than not, and an outside space he can safely be off leash. I think he would prefer a home with another dog, but as he gains more confidence I could see him being ok without another k9 companion. He currently lives in an apartment with a smaller dog & 2 cats (one senior, 8y, one kitten, 9m). While he would love his own yard, he does currently reside in an apartment and does well with lots of long line exercise at a nearby park.
He is very food motivated and I could see him learning some really fun tricks. Currently he knows: sit, down, come, off, back, drop it & leave it (when he wants to 😉), and more! We have been working on a place command & paw.
He loves snuffle mats and puzzle feeders, hard chews and lick mats, tearing up cardboard (supervised only!), playing fetch and tug, and running around like a baby deer who just learned how to walk. His favorite toys currently are a jolly balls and oinking/quacking rubber toys. He loves to play fetch and I’m trying to teach him how tug works!
He’s come such a long way, but will need a patient understanding home to allow him to decompress & bond with you. He would not currently do well with young children (10+ only!), though I think that could change with enough forethought, exposure, and management.
If interested in meeting Ross, fill out an application at paws4thecause.com
Is anybody else who uses blackboard at Bctc able to log on? I’m able to sign on mypath but whenever I click the blackboard link it won’t load. I have been trying for hours so I can do my hw.
This is the second time they caused stoppage of traffic without an apparent plan that I have had the pleasure of experiencing. Today’s episode was at 5:45am when they decided to retire the traffic lights at the intersection of Citation and Newtown Pike. Traffic stopped in all directions, one police vehicle blocking an outbound lane (I assume it was lent to them because there was no police on site) Worker said he was told it would take at least an hour. Fortunately I was in an outbound lane that was not blocked and some worker finally ( it appeared) took it on himself to wave my lane through. 45 minutes in traffic. Thank you for that experience and start of my day.
Surely others have noticed this, but want to make sure others know - If you click on the View Invoice or Pay Now button on the emails from Lexserv, there's a $1.95 service fee. However, if you go to the Customer Portal and log in, there is NO SERVICE FEE.
I'm going to try to give the exact dates of when everything went down the best I can, so bear with me.
My partner and I got our apartment keys to Bridle Creek Apartments on July 24th, 2026. Before I dive into what happened, I want to mention that we talked to a friend of a friend who lives here and absolutely loves it—they claimed maintenance was amazing and the only downfall was old appliances, which we were aware of and okay with. Now back to where it gets messy.
When we got our keys, the office told us they misplaced our mailbox key and would give it to us the following Monday since it was Friday and the office is closed on weekends. The leasing staff walked us to our unit, but as soon as we walked inside, she immediately left before we could say anything.
Move-In Day Reality: July 24th
Immediately, I started noticing issues that are completely unacceptable for a new tenant. I noticed roaches EVERYWHERE—babies and adults. Roach droppings were on literally everything: the outlets, walls, counters, and drawers. The dishwasher was completely unanchored and threatened to fall out every time you opened it. When you actually look inside, there's gnat larvae, dead roaches, food residue, and other unidentifiable gross stuff.
To top it off, the apartment was given to us uncleaned. Dirty clothes were left in the laundry room, and there was grease splashed on the cabinets and countertops. The only things actually cleaned were the fridge and the inside of the stove. We immediately messaged our landlord, and they told us pest control would come Monday—the same day we were supposed to get our mailbox keys. We stayed somewhere else in the meantime.
Broken Promises: July 27th – July 31st
Monday, July 27th, rolls around. We went to the office to get our mailbox keys, but they let us know they lost them somewhere and had to remake them. It was frustrating, but it was only our first week so we brushed it off. We asked if pest control had come by, and they said no, stating they had issues with their previous company and hired a new one to come the following Monday.
At this point, I was getting mad. I wanted to leave a complaint letter right then, but my partner and family said it was too much too soon and to give them a grace period.
We came back on July 31st to get more picture and video evidence. I decided to go back to the office to see if they had our keys, make sure we were on the list for pest control, ask for someone to re-clean, and request a dishwasher replacement.
When we walked in, they stated we weren't on the pest control list at all, pushing it out to August 3rd. They also stilldidn't have our mailbox key, so they took our actual apartment key to make a copy (I guess so they could replace the mailbox locks, but I don't know).
The Re-Cleaning Disaster
They did schedule us for a re-cleaning that same day, but the cleaner never showed up. We told the office, and they said she could come right that second. They told us to wait at our door to unlock it for her and said she would return our apartment key back to them when finished. We were leaving that night for a weekend trip, but they promised it would only take a few minutes.
We waited an entire hour and she never showed up. Mind you, we needed to leave.
By this time, the office was officially closed, but we gave it a shot and went back in hopes someone was still there. We drove by and saw office staff in their cars getting ready to leave, so we rushed over. Immediately, they started laughing and said, "Oh, she can't come till Monday. I'll take your key for now." So we gave her one of our apartment keys and left.
Trip #1 and Returning to Dead Roaches: August 4th
My boyfriend came back to the unit on August 4th. At this point, pest control should have come and the cleaner should have come. The place was kinda cleaner, but not great. He didn't see live roaches, but there were tons of dead ones laying everywhere—a clear signal they were still around. We ended up setting out our own roach bait and putting roach-killing powder in the carpet. My partner didn't have time to stop by the office as he had to be somewhere, and that same day we left for an out-of-town trip and wouldn't be back until August 17th.
Returning on August 17th: Nothing Has Changed
We came back on August 17th and, guess what... the roaches are still here. The dishwasher is still in the exact same condition. To make matters worse, bug infestations cause me to have severe allergic reactions—specifically to large infestations and shedding skin.
Showdown at the Office: August 18th
On the morning of August 18th, I finally wrote a formal complaint letter citing Kentucky tenant laws and marched my happy self down to the office.
When we walked in, another tenant was already complaining about being charged for a water leak in his building that management refuses to fix or investigate. As he was complaining, a woman walked in extremely angry, yelling at them that she’s had a leak and black mold in her apartment since March 2026 that they’ve yet to fix. The desk worker told her to email pictures, and the tenant screamed back that she’s been sending pictures since March!
I looked over at my boyfriend wide-eyed. In that moment, we knew we chose the wrong place to live. The tenant told us "Do not live here!" and we sadly had to tell her we already do and were there for unresolved issues of our own.
Eventually, someone came up to us. We told her we needed our mailbox keys, and she disappeared into the back for 10 to 20 minutes. She came back, and when we brought up the roaches and asked if pest control provided proof of a visit, she casually informed us that they have not been here at all, but promised they would be here "next week."
When I tried to respond, she cut us off, snatched the mailbox keys back out of our hands, said she gave us the wrong ones, and disappeared into the back for another 10 to 20 minutes.
She finally came back with new keys and handed them to my partner. I told her word-for-word: "No offense, but you told us two weeks ago they were coming by and they didn't." She then claimed they are for sure coming Thursday, August 27th.
I let her know how crazy this is given my medical allergies, that we haven't brought food in or truly lived here due to the infestation, and that the unit is not legally habitable. I also brought up the unanchored dishwasher, demanding it be completely removed or replaced. My partner added that our A/C is completely not working in the main bedroom and struggling in the rest of the unit.
I handed her my formal complaint letter, and she claimed maintenance would come by "sometime" to fix those issues.
The Final Straw
We walked right over to the mailboxes to test the new keys... and THEY WEREN'T OUR KEYS AGAIN!
At this point, I feel like we need to get a lawyer and just leave rather than waste time fighting to stay somewhere that clearly does not care about its residents. We are still missing mailbox keys, still living with roaches, and have barely any A/C. We pay close to $1,500/month to live here, and I've seen far better for cheaper.
Has anyone else had issues with Bridle Creek Apartments recently or in the past? How much further should we take this? Withholding mail is illegal, and under Kentucky tenant law, a roach infestation violates habitability standards. Please share your stories! PHOTOS WILL BE LEFT IN COMMENTS!!!
I am an artist. Fairly new, and I recently got married and am new to Lex. I am looking for like minded friends to chat about art and such things. I am 54yrs old, no bs please.
Does anyone have any anecdotes of someone being busted for driving from KY to another state to buy a certain product? By product, I’m pretty sure it’s understood what I’m referencing. One would think law enforcement would have bigger fish to fry.
okay my beloved mcdonald’s workers of lexington, can you guys PLEASE tell me what locations have my melody x mothra for the happy meal toy i will not be fufilled in life until i get this 😔
Hi all, I’m currently 18wks and I think I should start trying to find a photographer for our maternity photos and newborn photos. Does anyone have recommendations in this area? Also let me know when you had your maternity pics done… this is my first so not sure when the best time is?
Thank you everyone!
Ever since Steak ’n Shake started putting those obnoxiously huge American flags over all their stores to appeal to the MAGA crowd, I literally can’t bring myself to go inside or order their food.
And that’s saying something because I actually like Steak ’n Shake.
There’s something about the whole “LOOK HOW PATRIOTIC/MAGA WE ARE” display that just gives me an immediate feeling of revulsion.
I’m curious — am I the only one? Has anyone else had the same reaction and found themselves avoiding Steak ’n Shake because of the new flags/political lean?
About 11pm a large explosion happened anyone else hear or feel it?
Hey everyone. I was wondering of Lexington has a sober running group. I know we have A Running Start, and while that's a great program is a little different than what I'm looking for.
If there isn't a sober running group, would there be a lot of interest in one?
Edit: thank you everyone who has commented so far. A couple of comments: just because people aren't actively drinking or going to bars right after a run doesn't mean a run group is sober. Being around other sober people is important for those in early recovery (or any stage of recovery really). Hearing other people talk about their weekend plans (that involve drinking), how wild their night was, how expensive beer was at this one event, or similar things can feel really ostracizing to those in recovery or even triggering depending on the person.
