Thanks Cleveland!

Back in July, my family and I visited Cleveland for the first time. It was just a weekend trip from Buffalo, but we had a great time. There are still some things we didn't have a chance to do while there, so we'll be back eventually.

I just wanted to share some photos I took on the trip with you all and let you know I'm looking forward to going back.

Scenes Around Buffalo [Mamiya 645E, 80mm f/2.8, Kodak Ektar]

My second roll shot on my Mamiya. I love Ektar, but I accidentally overexposed most of the roll because I had the DOF preview switch turned on the whole time, so the metering was off. Better over than under though!

Update: Advice on Medium Format Cameras

Original Post

Thanks to everyone who took the time to share their advice and recommendations. I ended up purchasing a Mamiya 645E from my local camera shop. It came with a strap and the grip attachment and it was cheaper than the original camera I was looking at. It was also seemingly in almost new condition and even came with the receipt from when it was purchased from a different local camera shop in 2002.

I'm really enjoying it so far and I think you all led me in the right direction for my first medium format camera. Here's a shot from the first roll on Bergger Pancro 400. Still learning the meter a bit.

Advice on Medium Format Cameras

I've been shooting 35mm film for awhile now, and I'm really interested in trying medium format. The stock of medium format film cameras online is mostly outside my price range, and I'm not really interested in a TLR.

My local camera shop has a Graflex Norita with a 80mm f/2 lens for $900. KEH has a Fuji GW690II (and a III) with 90mm f3.5 for about $800.

I like the form factor of these cameras because they look and feel like cameras I'm used to using.

Two questions:

  1. Am I missing out by getting hung up on the form factor and not considering "boxier" cameras?

  2. Between the three options I listed, is there a strong reason to choose one over the others? The lens on the Graflex is probably closer to what I'd like, but is it worth the extra $$?

Side note: the Graflex at the local shop has been there awhile. The shop says it's been film tested.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide.

Surprised at how much I liked these. Love the way the lens flare came out too.
