My cat is vomiting
My 11 month old female calico cat keeps vomiting — ER vet already gave anti-nausea injection but she puked again. Looking for advice.
My cat Stella is an indoor 11 month old female calico. She is NOT spayed yet and currently in heat (rolling around, loud meowing, mating posture etc).
Yesterday she vomited multiple times (around 4 times in 6 hours). We took her to the ER vet around midnight and they gave her an anti-nausea injection (they said it should stop vomiting for 24 hours after about an hour).
Important details:
- Earlier in the day her water bowl accidentally became empty while we were out.
- When we came home she drank water quickly and vomited afterward.
- She had cat grass 2 days ago.
- She has had one previous vomiting episode back in late March, but nothing major between then and now.
- Vomit has mostly been water/foam, not huge food chunks or obvious hairballs.
- No blood seen.
Current situation (5am now):
- She vomited AGAIN after the anti-nausea injection, just foam/water.
- She is drinking water.
- She is not really eating.
- She is awake with eyes open and sitting in her little cat house.
- She is quieter than normal and not playing.
- Usually she is VERY active at night but tonight she mostly sits quietly.
- Breathing seems normal.
- She still moves around and changes spots sometimes.
- Not collapsed or limp.
ER vet mentioned ultrasound/X-rays if vomiting continues but emergency pricing was extremely expensive and they recommended following up with our regular family vet during daytime if she stays stable.
I’m trying to figure out:
- Does this sound more like stomach irritation/dehydration/grass irritation?
- Could heat/stress contribute to this?
- At what point should I consider this a true emergency again?
- Has anyone had a cat vomit through anti-nausea injections before?
Any advice appreciated. I’m monitoring her closely and planning to call the regular vet as soon as they open.
